Fingerprint Scanning General Issues & Tips to Improve Fingerprint Quality

The readability of fingerprints is affected by many factors including wear and tear,
skin dryness, and age. The middle finger often gives better scans than the index
finger because the middle finger is typically less worn.

1. Clean your hands with water and soap and dry them up afterwards before presenting them for finger scan
especially if you came into contact with dust, particles, and greasy substances like food or anything that
leaves any coating on your fingers. If your fingers are the oily sweaty type, you could rub them on your
cardigan, shirt, trousers or skirt before placing them on biometric scanner.

2. Dry Fingerprints can lead to capturing of low quality fingerprints during a

Biometric scan. The human face is usually oily for most individuals. Using
your Finger tip, rub face just above eye lashes to moisten it up then
present it on reader.

3. Place the finger correctly on the fingerprint scanner. For the best quality images, fingers should be placed
such that a maximum area of the fingerprint is imaged. Generally this means that the first knuckle of the
finger is at the bottom of the platen and the fingertip is at the top, with the finger centered on the platen
from left to right.
