1. NAME OF COURSE/MODULE: PROJECT I

2. COURSE CODE: FYP4203
3. RATIONALE FOR THE INCLUSION OF THE COURSE/MODULE IN THE PROGRAMME:
It is important that students at tertiary level are taught research or investigation skills to develop their intellectual
capacity for critical thinking and innovative thinking.

7. PREREQUISITE (if any): SDT2201 Systems Analysis and Design
8. LEARNING OUTCOMES:
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Construct an effective research proposal in an area related to their area of specialization.
2. Critically review relevant literature in the related area.
3. Identify an appropriate research methodology and instruments for the collection of data.
4. Analyse and interpret the data using a suitable method.
5. Present the preliminary findings in written form.
9. SYNOPSIS:
Final Year Project serves as a platform for students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge gained from various
course modules in respect to each specialization. Each project must be unique and they will therefore vary in their
scope and emphasis. Projects are expected to be a substantial practical problem-solving exercise which require
students to demonstrate their skills in organization, time-management, investigation and communication. In the
conduct of this project, students are expected to demonstrate their understanding and skills on how to formulate a
problem by identifying, defining and analyzing problem areas related to the specific field of their specialization.
Students will learn how to conduct proper literature review and also to produce scholarly writing. Appropriate
research methodologies or fact find techniques will be introduced and students will learn how to apply the
appropriate research design, data collection and analysis techniques. Based on the data collected, students are
expected to document the system design report or data analysis report. This will conclude the first stage of the
conduct of Final Year Project. Students will conduct the remaining project phases in FYP4202.
10. MODE OF DELIVERY: Lecture and Supervision
Lectures and supervision are conducted both face to face and online.
