Reading Level: 8th Grade 2/13/19 Spring 2019 8th Grade World History Using Research Skills to Create Trading Cards Learning Intention: Be able to identify various dictators that came to power and how they came to power in various countries around the world in the period between the wars. Success Criteria: I can identify how and why various dictators came to power in the 1930s. Rationale: This Unit is about the rise of dictators between World War I and World War II so creating a way to identify and understand the various types of political ideologies and dictators that rose to power around the world in the 1930s. Materials: Paper, graphic organizer, Chromebooks, colored pencils and markers. Differentiation: I will allow extra time for those who need it. I will also provide supplies for anyone who does not have their own. I will also allow some to type up their trading cards rather than write and draw them if necessary. I can also cut larger ones for those who need it. Activities: Instructor: This is a multiple day project. The first day the students will use Discovery Education readings to fill in their graphic organizer on each dictator. Then the next day they will work on their trading cards. First I will show them the instructions and an example. I will explain how many cards they need and what each card requires. Then I will pass out 6 pieces of paper for them to use as their cards. Then I will release them row by row to get their Chromebooks. After that they will use the Chromebooks and their graphic organizer to complete their trading cards. Students: Fill out and complete their graphic organizer Draw, color and fill out their trading cards. Turn in the finished cards and graphic organizer WICOR: Writing, Inquiry, Organization and Reading are all present in this lesson Evaluation/Assessment: The lesson will be successful if the students participate in the activity and complete the trading cards and graphic organization in the allotted time. Closing Activity: Give the students time to turn in their work, put away their Chromebooks and other supplies.
