Objectives
The message that the film maker want us to know is that Heneral Luna didn’t give up the
fight until the end even though other Generals or high ranks in the government did not help
him at all. Another message is that Filipinos can fight the Americans even though they lack
supplies, equipments, cooperation, and leadership. Bravery in the movie is an example too.
Also Heneral Luna shows off his aggressiveness towards the cowards and traitor in his side
and shows off his patriotism to the country he loves the most. The film is totally engaging
because it’s graphics and emotions shows that the movie is really worth to watch. It’s action
pack and goosebumps moments brings us back to what really happened to the Philippine-
American War. It attracts many Filipinos especially the youth because it gives us the power
of bravery and cooperation to each other. And another reason why it attracts the youth is
because it’s gives us knowledge about the history and the heroism of the Filipinos before.

II. Findings
A. Positive
1. Setting –

2. Story – The story took place during the Philippine-American War, focusing on the
leadership of Heneral Luna to the Philippine Revolutionary Army. It revolved not
only about the war against the Americans, but mainly on the conflict among
Filipinos. The issue was about the presence of Americans and other Filipinos
supporting the Americans’ ways such as Buencamino and Paterno. The idea of
fellow Filipinos supporting Americans enraged Heneral Luna for he was very
patriotic and strongly fought for the freedom of the Philippines.

3. Characters - John Arcilla really did an excellent portrayal of Heneral Luna and the
other actors as well for the rest of the “motley crew” politicians and soldiers. I was
even amazed with both Epi Quizon as Apolinario Mabini and Mon Confiado as
President Emilio Aguinaldo.

4. Visual - Stunning visuals, beautiful costumes and set designs. It also has a clever
camera angles and modest yet skillful cinematography techniques to make the
movie look convincing despite a small cast and limited resources compared to other
foreign war films.

5. Audio -
6. Acting - Actors and actresses are very good in acting.

B. Negative
1. Setting -
2. Story - Though Luna was considered to be a great leader of the army, some were
against his leadership for others envy or were threatened by his presence. He had
conflicts with other fellow generals such Mascardo which lead to more hatred
against Luna.

3. Characters -
4. Visual -
5. Audio -
6. Acting - poor acting chops of most of the American contingent
