An Informative Essay:

● To inform the reader about a topic or position


● You will have to educate the reader on a topic.
● You take on the role of an “”expert”
● You will need to do research (gather information on the
topic)to best determine what you will want to write
about.
● Should answer the 5W’s & H

Conclusion

● You are bringing your essay to an


end
● Restate your thesis
● Summarize your main points
● Give closure
AVOID
1. Informal language.

For example, “can’t” vs. “cannot” ; “gonna”.

2. Personal language → I, you. Use impersonal nouns like


“one”, “people”, “citizens”, “students”, etc.
3. Plagiarism

It is unacceptable to use someone’s words/work


without citing it. If you paraphrase, also cite.
