Preference Essay

3. Some high schools require all students to wear school uniforms. Other high
schools permit students to decide what to wear to school. Which of these two school
policies do you think is better? Use specific reasons and examples to support your
opinion.

Nowadays the schools are demanding more from their students not only in the aspect of
education also in the aspect of the dress, the institutions want that every students wear
uniforms. Then what do I prefer? Personally, I prefer that students be the ones who decide
to dress to go to school.

The identity of each individual is very important, students without uniforms make equal
students, they can express who they are and have confidence in their own actions and
decisions.

Creating schools free of uniforms can create the belief and culture of trusting that students
can make their own decisions and in a certain way can help students have a better
relationship among themselves while creating a more independent learning environment.
School uniforms are against children's freedom of expression and inhibit their individuality.
Young people express their personality and feelings through the clothes they wear. The
uniforms take away this form of expression and inhibit their freedom of choice. Schools
should teach students to think in freedom.

Besides, that students do not wear uniforms can help in the economic area of parents. We
can compare the cost of dressing students with uniforms with the use of regular clothing of
the student's own choice, it is really cheaper. Normally a student must have at least two to
three uniforms without counting the shoes and badge. The cost of uniforms is prohibitive,
especially when a family includes more than one child of school age.

Currently in our country, uniform can be a high risk because they are easy prey for gangs,
with uniforms students are recognized quickly.

Instead of promoting an orderly, harmonious and disciplined student environment,

compulsory and, in some cases, uncomfortable uniforms will cause disobedience on the part
of students. Uniforms may decrease the comfort level of the child while attending school.
Some school uniforms present safety problems. Most children's school uniforms include a
tie. When a child is playing, the tie can get stuck anywhere and produce important injuries
to the child, including drowning.

To conclude the use of uniforms can affect in different areas. I prefer that the students do
not use it. Camille Guaty once said: “I went to a Catholic school, so of course we had to
wear uniforms. My only form of expression was in shoes and the style of my hair”.
