SYNOPSIS

1. OBJECTIVE

Total Quality Management is a management approach of an organization, centered on

quality, based on the participation of all its members and aiming at long-term success

through customer satisfaction, and benefits to all members of the organization and to

society.

• The objective of this project is to study the impact of Total Quality

Management(TQM) on operational performance of manufacturing organizations.

2. SCOPE OF STUDY

• This study mainly focuses on TQM practices in manufacturing sector.

• This study will focus on the effect of TQM practices on organizational

performance of manufacturing sector.

3. RATIONALE

3.1 How the ORGANZATION can benefit from the study:

The benefits of TQM in the manufacturing organisation can be:

• Better control of processes resulting in consistency from design through to delivery.


• Reduced production time.

•A reduction in the quantity of goods damaged in transit.

•Reduced delivery time.

• Increased measurement of performance, and

•Improvement in customer perceptions of the company.

However, the major benefits of a TQM programme are the increased awareness and

focus of all employees on satisfying internal and external customers.

Management objectives such as: customer satisfaction, meeting specifications, larger

market share, higher productivity, zero defects, X% increase in sale and Y% decrease in

costs can be achieved by embodying TQM ethics in all aspects of the organization, and

those objectives become a natural consequence.

3.2 How the STUDENT can benefit from the Project:

• The Study will provide an opportunity to the student to learn independently his

area of interest ,which is , TQM.

• The Study will provide excellent exposure to various practices and activities of

Total Quality Management (TQM).

• The Study will provide an opportunity to carry out an in-depth study of applied

nature of TQM in business context.


4. DATA COLLECTION

4.1 PRIMARY SOURCES

The primary sources of data for this project are

• Supervisor’s instructions and explanations.

4.2 SECONDARY SOURCES

The secondary sources of data are

• Various Research Papers, Case Studies and Journals published.

• Websites on internet focussing on the topic.

• Magazines and books having information about the topic.

5. ANALYSIS

• MS-Excel functionalities, like Tabulation, can be used to analysis purposes.

• Case Study approach can be used to analyse the impact of TQM practices on real

organisation.

6. EXPECTED CONCLUSION

• TQM practices would directly influence operational performance of the

organization .
• TQM practices are expected to aligned positively with the various operational

performances parameters like Cost,Quality,Delivery and Flexibilty.

7. LMITATIONS

The major obstacles in implementing TQM in the manufacturing sector could be:

• Inadequate knowledge and information about TQM.

• Doubts of employees about management’s intentions.

• Failure of management to maintain interest and commitment over a long period

of time.

• Difficulty in measuring the effectiveness of TQM.

• Poor internal communication.

• Difficulty in assessing customer expectations and satisfaction.

• Insufficient training resources.
