A Raffle Ticket Could Buy
One Homemade Quilt Done
by TCS 7th Graders
With the Thorp Catholic Schoo!’s Annual Winter Fest coming up on
Saturday, January 29, the local school is coming together to get raffle
items lined up. The seventh grade clase, taught by Jessica Ciolkosz,
came up with the idea to create something that the whole school could
be part of all the while benefiting the financial situation of the school, and
they collectively came up with the idea of creating a homemade guilt.
The seventh grade class had each class at TCS choose two fabrics to
represent them on the quilt—turning the quilt into a vibrant and colorful
masterpiece. Along with each representing pattem are two oxtra
squares—one representing the staff and the other, the solid blue blocks,
symbolizing the color that used to signify TCS years ago. The green
back of the quilt also includes a key, letting the soon-to-be owner know
which print belongs to each room.
‘The seventh grade class discussed the design, agreed on a pattem,
and began working on the quilt, They learned how to iron, use 4
measuring mat and rotary cutter, use @ sewing machine, and even
‘occasionally working with a seam ripper. The students cut and sewed
180 squares for the’top of the quilt, making it a true class project. 3
“The students really enjoyed this project,” commented Ciolkosz. “A lot
of work, concentration, learning, and love went into this quilt, and it was
amazing to watch. The students really did an excellent job. We hope
people are able to take the time to place a bid,”
