Do you watch the news ?
TPS: What elements/features are in a newscast?
Watch this brief news report, and think about what makes the newscast
authentic. How do you know you are watching the news?

Newscasts include :
● Theme music /introduction
● Flash of headlines and breaking news
● Greetings
● Introduction of the report
● Person on scene reporting: interviews with witnesses, people’s opinions,
voice over with images and video, etc.
● Reporter signs off: this is Simone Spencer from CNN reporting .

Newscast Assignment
● In groups of two or three, chose an event to do a newscast on. The events
include: The March on Washington, Martin Luther King’s imprisonment in
Birmingham jail, or Martin Luther King’s assassination. You will be required to
give various points of views in the newscast (the reaction of White and Black
citizens, politicians, and clergy). If you do not know how they would react think
about the texts we’ve read in class. Additional research is also a plus.
● Answer all 5 W’s and H.

● ·You will have to follow the format of a real newscast: props, anchor(s),
on-scene reporter, interviews, images, video, special effects, etc.
● This assignment can be done digitally or dramatized in class. Due March
18th(9B) & March 21st (9A) .
