School Grade Level 4

Teacher Learning Area: Mathematics

Time and Date Quarter: Fourth

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of the
concepts of bar graphs and simple
experiments.
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to create and interpret simple
representations of data (tables and bar graphs)
and describe outcomes in simple experiments.
C. Learning Competencies/Objectives At the end of the lesson, 75% or ____ out of ____
pupils will be able to solve routine and non-
routine problems involving a simple
experiment. M4SP-IVj-12
Integration: Naiuugnay ang kahalagahan ng
pagtangkilik sa sariling produkto sa pag-unlad
at pagsulong ng bansa. AP4LKE-IId-4

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Drill
presenting new lesson Ask:
Give your prediction on simple probability. Choose
from:
0 = impossible to happen
½ = equally likely to happen
1 = certain to happen
1. Buntod Reef is found in Masbate. (1)
2. The probability that the one sitting on your right
is a Masbateño. ( ½ )
3. If your parents are both Filipinos and you are
born in the Philippines, you are a Filipino. (1)
4. Mario was born in Masbate. His parents are
Masbateños. His native tongue is Ilocano. (0)

Review
Conduct a review on how to solve routine and
non-routine word problems. Ask the learners
to say something about the 4-step plan in
solving problems. Also ask them for some
strategies in solving word problems.

Expected Answers:
-Understand, Plan, Solve, Check and Look
Back
-By drawing, trial and error, working
backwards, listing, etc.

B. Establishing a purpose for the Motivation

lesson Put carmelado, squash molido and coconut
molido in a box. Each of them is wrapped in a
paper. Ask the class of the probability of
picking the carmelado without looking. Return
the product if it is not the carmelado. Do this 10
times. Tally the number of times each food is
picked.

Integration (Naiuugnay ang kahalagahan ng

pagtangkilik sa sariling produkto sa pag-unlad
at pagsulong ng bansa. AP4LKE-IId-4):
Ask: Do you like these foods? Why? Where can
we buy these? Who usually sell these? Why is
there a need to buy these instead of other
pastillas or foods from other places? What
other food from our place do you like best?
Which places in our province can be
considered your favorite, too?
C. Presenting examples/ instances of Present this situation to class.
the new lesson.

Ask the pupils to read. Let them solve by group.

D. Discussing new concepts and Group the pupils into four. Ask them to solve the
practicing new skills #1 problem through brainstorming FGD (Focus
Group Discussion), roleplaying, etc.

Solution:

Understand:
Know what is asked: the probability that Lina
would buy Aling Nora’s ibos
Know the given facts: There were four stalls to
choose from.

Plan: There were four stalls. One of the stalls was

Aling Nora’s.
Use the formula, then substitute.
P (E) = number of times an event can occur
total number of outcomes

Solve : Using the formula P (3) = 1

4
The probability that Lina can spin 3 (Aling
Nora’s) is ¼.

Check and Look Back: Since the spinner has 4

sections, any of the sections has the
probability of ¼. Since one of the sections is
labeled with a 3, the probability that you spin 3
is ¼.

Processing the Answer/s:

Have all groups present their outputs. Encourage
the children to share to the class how they felt
doing the activity.
Ask: How did you answer the problem?
Expected Answers: We used the 4-step plan in
solving the problem: Understand, Plan, Solve,
Check and Look Back
E. Discussing new concepts and Present to the class this situation. Ask them to
practicing new skills #2 solve the problem.

Understand:
Know what is asked: the probability that you are
heading to the right direction
Know the given facts: There are two directions to
choose from.

Plan: There are two directions. One of the

directions is the right one.
Use the formula, then substitute.
P (E) = number of times an event can occur
total number of outcomes
Solve : Using the formula P (right) = 1
2
The probability that you are heading to the
right direction is ½.

Check and Look Back: Since there are two

directions, any of the directions has the
probability of ½. Since one of the directions is
the right one, the probability that you are
heading to the right direction is ½.

Processing the Answer/s:

Have all groups present their outputs. Encourage
the children to share to the class how they felt
doing the activity.
Ask: How did you solve the problem?
Expected Answers: We easily answered because
it is a real-life situation.
We used the 4-step plan in solving the problem:
Understand, Plan, Solve, Check and Look
Back
F. Developing mastery Let the pupils solve of the following:
1. Noli, Ted, Mike, Atom and Anthony were
having a race during the Masbate City
Athletic Meet. What is the probability that Noli
will win?
2. Six districts joined the parade. The pupils in
each district were wearing a different color of
shirt. The colors were orange, red, yellow,
blue, green and pink. What is the probability
that a pupil is wearing pink?
3. Aling Nena bought fruits at the Saudan near
the Social Center. There are 3 fruits in her
basket- mango, guava and chico. What is the
probability that chico will be chosen?
G. Finding practical application of Group the pupils into four. Let each group solve
concepts and skills in daily living one of the following:
1. The letters from the words LAPAY
BANTIGUE are placed in a hat. What is the
probability that you select a T when you are
choosing a letter without looking? What is the
probability that you will choose an A?
2. There are four boxes to choose from. One
box has baduya, another has kalingking, the
third has bananacue and the forth has bitso-
bitso. What is the probability that you will
choose a food that is made of banana? What
is the probability that you will choose French
fries?
3. A cube with pictures of the different beautiful
spots in Masbate was rolled. There are
pictures of Mt. Mayong-Payong,
Mangrovetum, Buntod Reef, Bugsayon
Sanctuary and Palani Beach Villas. What is
the probability that Mangrovetum is on top of
the cube? What is the probability that a place
that starts with a consonant is on top?
4. Lito and 3 of his girl friends apply for a job in
Jollibee Masbate. There is only one vacancy.
What is the probability that Lito will get the
job? What is the probability that a girl will get
hired?
H. Making generalizations and Guide the pupils in giving the generalization.
abstraction about the lesson (We use the 4-step plan in solving the problem:
Understand, Plan, Solve, Check and Look
Back)
I. Evaluating learning Read each problem and answer the questions that
follow.
1. A bag from Usab contains 5 balls made of
coconut leaves which are painted red, white,
blue, yellow and green. Without looking, what
is the probability that Ligaya picks a white
ball?
a. What is asked?
b. What facts are given?
c. How will you solve the problem?
d. What is the complete answer?

2. Gina and her friends take turns in spinning a

letter spinner during a game in Rodeo Arena
during the Rodeo Festival. The spinner has
letters A, B, C, D and E. What is the chance
that Gina spins a C in her next turn?
a. What is asked?
b. What facts are given?
