Transitioning into Imperatives through Cooking

Students will be able to:

 Demonstrate an understanding of the function and range of the contexts of procedural writing

 Apply an appropriate procedural framework and order to a piece of writing

 Formulate in writing explicit instructions for a sequence of steps needed to complete a task

 Use appropriate nouns, verbs, adjectives, and transition words throughout a procedure (imperative form)

This week we will be working on procedural writing. You will learn the verbs involved in cooking
as well as the form recipes are written and presented using imperatives and transition words.
Project:
Part 1: Write a recipe using appropriate procedural framework and order. – DUE FRIDAY 04/05
You recipe must include:

 Ingredients
 Measurement
 Step by step procedure
Part 2 : Presentation – with a partner, create a “how-to” video about your recipe. You may make
your dish while you film (with adult supervision), or you may simulate making your dish. – DUE
MONDAY 04/08
The film must be short (4 minutes maximum). You may choose to add some background music
where necessary to make the film more interesting. We will be reviewing some film editing options
in class on Friday.
