ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I believe that behind the journey of each and every student life, not only the relentless
urge to work hard but, also the guidance and inspiration of their teacher. I can be no
exception and would like to express my deep gratitude from heart towards all those who
helped me in completion of this seminar report.
ABSTRACT
In this era of urbanisation, the demand of oil & gas has been increased in high magnitude.
Due to increasing demand, exploration activities of Oil & Gas reserves are increases
worldwide. Henceforth there is high demand of Oil & Gas Floating Structures or
Foundations. In Past, many researchers from the field of Oil & Gas Industry have expressed a
keen interest in development of new verticals in these areas. The main concept of Floating
Structures / Foundations is that they are economically viable and reusable. While the large
fixed platforms are economically not viable and not reusable because they are designed with
site specific design criteria. With the increase in knowledge and understanding of basic
phenomena of floating foundations / structures relating to Oil & Gas Industry, Peoples now
started the use of Tension Leg Platform (TLP), Floating Production Storage and offloading
(FPSO), Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU), Oil Storage Tankers., Ship Based Hull
Structures etc. Many knowledge hubs like (Maritime Universities worldwide, University or
Aberdeenshire UK, Texas A & M University USA nearby region of Gulf of Mexico.) had
started research work in these areas. Some of Very Good EPC Companies have created a
boost among researchers. The theoretical and practical understanding about installation, use
and design of floating foundations / floating structures dominate oil & gas market all around
the globe in short span of time.

This report is an attempt to summarize the applications and behavioural aspects of offshore
structures/ offshore floating foundations relates to oil & gas industry. Most of the studies
concerning offshore structures and offshore foundations reveal that, its provision gives better
result on performance basis. The research gap in the field is design of elements alike design
of tension leg, leg spacing, design of caternary riser/ mooring lines, foundation template,
foundation - its design and installation. The gap between the researchers and engineers
should be narrowed with the implementation of new idea or new product design guideline
emerged from this research.
