[1] Management Strategy for Microgrid operation

This strategy divides the system into 3 layers: renewable generation, storage devices and conventional
generation. The interactions between the devices of the same layer are determined by solving an ELD in
a distributed manner using a consensus algorithm (CA). The interactions between layers are determined
by means of a load following strategy. In essence, this paper presents an algorithm for the solution of ELD
problem for the stand-alone mode of operation of microgrids with distributed generation and energy
storage systems.

One of the main motivations is the creation of a more resilient power system by means of microgrids
capable of operating in stand-alone mode.

Main contribution: the microgrid operation to reduce distributed systems vulnerability is extensively
analysed, with special attention given to the management strategy.

Management strategy: The optimal power dispatch is determined using load following plus consensus
algorithm (distributed approach). In addition, a strategy based on the maximum loadability index is
introduced, so the RES + BSS + Conventional Generation are used to prevent voltage problems.

Consensus algorithm is used to solve the ELD problem for every type of generation. [2] The incremental
cost of each generator is chosen as the consensus variable. To satisfy the demand constraint, the
mismatch between demand and total power generated is fed back to the consensus algorithm such that
the incremental cost converges to the optimal value. The network is considered as a strongly connected
graph.
