TASK-B-1

Mahindra SUV NuvoSports:

NuvoSports packs with new features like AMT, Eco/Power Mode, etc. still I feel the 3-Cylinder Engine used
is the down side of this Vehicle. Even though 3-cylinder Engines are more fuel efficient, have lower
frictional losses, lighter in weight and compact in size.

Still 4-cylinder engine is much smoother, because in 3-cylinder engine Power Stroke happens after every
120degree rotation of crank-shaft (i.e. 1 rot. of CRS = 3 Power Stroke) while in 4-Cylinder Engine it happens
with every 90degree rotation of crank-shaft (i.e. 1 rot. of CRS = 4 Power Stroke). During the time when no
power stroke or firing is taking place in 3-cylinder Engine it moves only on the momentum generated by
the flywheel connected to the crankshaft, at lower speed this can lead to more vibrations and if not
enough input is given it can also Stall. So, for better power a 3-cylinder engine will needs to be Revved to
higher rpms than 4-cylinder engine of equal capacity.
