● The ​vocals​ exist in their own melodic/rhythmic layer
● The e​ lectric guitar​ exists in a melodic layer that often engages in call and response with the vocal layer
● The​ acoustic piano​ changes its role between sections. It acts as a melodic layer in section A. It then switches
between a chordal and rhythmic layer throughout different sections of the song. This is done to make room other,
more prominently featured instruments.
● The ​synth organ​ serves to thicken the texture in sections.
● The ​electric bass guitar​ is closely linked with the rhythm section but has a distinct and unique melody, thereby
placing it in it’s own melodic/rhythmic layer.
● The ​acoustic guitar ​serves two roles. One is to thicken the chordal texture of the song and the second is to
contribute to the rhythmic layer made up by the ​drum kit, drum sticks and tambourine. ​These instruments define
the beat throughout the entire song.
