G . S . R . 6 9 3 ( E ) . — In exercise o f the pow ers conferred by S ection 31 o f the C igarettes and other T obacco Products

(P rohibition o f A dvertisem ent and R egulation o f T rade and C om m erce, P roduction, S upply and D istribution) A ct, 2003
(34 o f 2003), the C entral G overnm ent hereby m akes the follow ing rules, to am end the C igarettes and other T obacco Products
(P ackaging and L abelling) R ules, 2008, nam ely :—

1 . S h o r t t it le a n d C o m m e n c e m e n t— (1) T hese rules m aybe called the C igarettes and other T obacco Products
[P ackaging and L abelling (A m endm ent) R ules], 2008.

(2) T hey shall com e into force on the 30th N ovem ber, 2008.

2. In the C igarettes and other T obacco P roducts (P ackaging and L abelling) R ules, 2008 in rule 3, —

(i) for sub-rule (e), the follow ing shall be substituted, nam ely: —

“ (e) no product shall be sold unless the package contains the specified health w arning :

P rovided that the specified health w arning shall be printed, pasted or affixed on every retail package in
w hich the tobacco product is norm ally intended for consum er use or retail sale, as w ell as any other
external packaging, such as cartons or boxes and w ill not include other packaging such as gunny bags; ”

(ii) for sub-rule (f), the follow ing shall be substituted, nam ely: —

“ (f) the specified w arnings shall be inscribed in the language/s used on the pack :

P rovided that w here m ore than one language is used on the pack the specified w arning shall appear in
tw o languages, one in w hich the brand nam e appears and the other in the local language o f the area
w here the product is being sold. ”
