Issues/Problems/Challenges of
Traders
Your Trading Coach says:
If trading … is a source of
anxiety, fear, frustration,
depression, or anger, then
something is wrong… with you.
If trading is a source of
negative emotions, you have
probably already lost the game
because you are just a gambler.
What produces the profit in trading?
Trading Profits
What kind of trader are you?
Volatility (the meaning of N): True Range = Maximum (H - L,H - PDC, PDC - L)
N is simply the 20-day
moving average of the True where:
Range. H – Current High
L – Current Low
PDC – Previous Day’s Close
Conceptually, N value
represents the average range
To compute N use the following formula:
in price movement that a
N = (19 × PDN + TR ) / 20
particular market makes in a
single day, accounting for where:
opening gaps. N was PDN – Previous Day’s N
measured in the same points TR – Current Day’s True Range
as the underlying contract.
Since this formula requires a previous day’s N value, you
must start with a 20-day simple average of the True
Range for the initial calculation.
Position Sizing
Dollar Volatility Adjustment and Volatility Adjust Position Units
GFT builds positions in pieces which we called Units. Units were sized so
that 1 N represented 1% of the account equity. Thus, a unit for a given
market or commodity can be calculated using the following formula:
The unit size for the 6th of December, 2010 (using the N value of 0.0141 from the 4th of
December), is as follows:
Heating Oil
N = 0.0141
Account Size = $10,000 equity
Dollars per Point = 42,000 (42,000 gallon contracts with price quoted in dollars)
Since it isn’t possible to trade partial contracts, this would be truncated to an even 0.2
contracts.

When to buy or sell
corresponding commodity.
If the price dropped one tick
below the low of the last 20-
days, the trader would sell
one Unit to initiate a short
position.
