The Muster list must be shown to the on-signer, any assigned duties are to be explained
The on-signer must be shown all lifeboat and liferaft locations and Muster Point - in the case
of freefall lifeboats, this is to include how to safely enter the boat, allocated seating position
and how to fasten safety harness, belts etc.
The on-signer is to be shown the routes from his assigned cabin to the Muster Point including
location of Exit IMO Signs.
All on-signers are to be shown the points of exit from the Engine Room.

Breathing Apparatus / Escape Sets
Survival Suits / Thermal Aids
Chemical Suits
Familiarise the on-signer with Emergency Alarms and signals
Watch-keeping requirements and other routine requirements are to be explained by the
appropriate Head of Department.
Smoking regulations as per Company standards and ship and/or terminal particular
regulations are to be explained. (This is irrespective of whether or not the on-signer is a
smoker, he may need to intervene in case of another person onboard contravening the
requirements /
Fire or smoke is detected
A person falls overboard
Accident / Need for Medical Assistance
The fire or abandon ship alarm is sounded
Explain how to activate various Portable Fire Extinguishers on board
Also test “how to contact”? and “Where to find the Contact information”.

Part B :To be completed within two [2] weeks of joining the vessel. Items 3 to 8 : To be demonstrated by the Familiarisation Officer then person being familiarised to demonstrate
