Festivals in the Month of Vaishak

1) Parshuram Jayanti Vaishak Vaishak Shukla Paksh-3

Parashurama Jayanti is celebrated as birth anniversary of sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed
that Parashurama was born during Pradosh Kala and hence the day when Tritiya prevails during Pradosh
Kala is considered for Parashurama Jayanti celebrations. The purpose of the sixth incarnation of Lord
Vishnu is to protect the Earth by destroying the sinful and irreligious rulers who neglected their
duties towards man and God.

2) Akshay Tritya Vaishak Vaishak Shukla Paksh-3

The word Akshaya means never Diminishing or lasting forever. Hence the benifit of doing any religious
work or starting any new venture on this day is considered very Auspicious. Akshaya Tritiya is believed to
bring good luck and success. Most people purchase Gold on this day as it is believed that buying Gold on
Akshaya Tritiya brings prosperity and more wealth in the future. No Muhurath is required on this day.
The Day itself is auspicious.

3) Shankaracharya Jayanti Vaishak Shukla Paksh-5

Adi Shankaracharya, who brought out Santana Dharma, from the clutches of rituals, is also considered as
an incarnation of Lord Shiva by many people. It was Shankaracharya who revived the teachings of
Upanishads. His Birthday is celebrated on this day.

4) Ganga Saptami Vaishak Shukla Paksh-7

According to Hindu Mythology Ganga descended on Earth on this Tithi . A Bath in the river Ganga done
according to proper rituals destroys all sins and liberates the soul. This day is the Birthday of Goddess
Ganga and hence it is also called Ganga Jayanti.

5) Sita Navami/ Janki Jayanti Vaishak Shukla Paksh-9

Goddess Sita was born on this Tithi. Ma Sita was also known as Janaki . Therefore this day is also known
as Sita Jayanti,Janaki Jayanti or Janaki Navami. It is celebrated as birth anniversary of Goddess sita.

6) Mohini Ekadashi Vaishak Shukla Paksh-11

Vaishak Shukla Paksha Ekadashi is known as Mohini Ekadashi. It is one of the 24 Ekadashi Fastings
observed in the year.

7) Narasimha Jayanti Vaishak Shukla Paksh-14

Lord Narasimha is the fourth incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Word Nar Simha means man & Lion . Lord
Shiva appeared in the form of Narsimha and destroyed the demon Hiranyakashipu.

8) Apara Ekadashi Vaishak Krishna Paksh-11
