In “the end of something” Hemingway reveals that Hemingway is

connecting to his life. Hemingway’s use of symbol represents the relationship
with Marjorie thereby demonstrating that as he sees him with her their mill
becomes a castle “hey look its the old broken down mill over their, it’s not just a
mill it’s a castle .

In hemingway's life he talked about how he meet this one girl named Luz
and that when he saw her he thought she was the one for him because he saw
her as his light and to be the one for him and and that they were the hottest
couple out their because in the story “the end of something“ it talks about how
this mill was all ruined and broken downed but he sees it as a nice castle which
is like their relationship but then at the end of the story it talks about them
breaking up.

Nick viewed the relationship with Marjorie as a castle and she viewed it as
a mill. Nick valued the relationship more. Marjorie was trying to save the
relationship by fishing. She is trying to get them to hang out again so their
relationship doesn’t fall apart.

This demonstrates Hemingway’s relationship with women is awful because

he had 4 wives and 70 mistresses. His life was awful because he couldn’t stick
with a relationship.
