B1 exam Preparation tips

Just polish your grammar skills, as these gonna help in Schreiben and Sprechen.

Solve sample papers as much as you can and mainly So geht es noch besser, Zertifikat
Neu, Mit Erfolg and Fit fürs.

Start with So Geht's, as it has a good level in comparison to all others then solve Mit
Erfolg then the other two.

Talk to yourself in German, and also you can do a conversation in front of mirror and do
recording at the same time, as this will help you focussing on mistakes what you're
doing.

Do Schreiben on a daily basis.

I know these things are difficult to do and sometimes it's also boring but trust me, if you
want good marks in B1 You need to work hard. Try to use some structures while
speaking and writing, you can also use Nomen-Verben Verbindung, though we use
Nomen-Verben Verbindung Mainly after B1 but you learn 10–15 structures and use
them in your both parts that will enhance your skills.

Also try to learn synonyms of Verbs, before the exam, you should know 30–40 common
verbs with synonyms. Moreover, learn redemittels these are in the back of the book in
Netzwerk B1 and also after every chapter, and you can also find lists on Google of
redemittels.

The pattern of Schreiben and Sprechen is fixed, so just practice the topics which are
given in those sample papers, if you do these sample papers, I am very much sure, your
sprechen topic will be from these only and same with schreiben.

For hören, start listening to podcasts on DW, and langsam Gesprochene Nachricht in
DW, this will help you improving your hören then comes Lesen, so when you practice
more and more you will develop lots of tricks yourself, but the only thing is, just you
need to devote a lot of time to it, otherwise it might get difficult to clear the exam.
Revise you vocabulary, that you have so far. Then, make sure you practice the Grammar
at least once!

Now, the most important part about the B1 exam is cracking the exam.

Here, you’ll have to work on clearing all the four sections!

So, I’ll go section-wise:

LESEN:

For Lesen, you should solve as many practice tests as possible under the time limit. Also,
mark new words that you find in the exam and find the meaning of those marked words
after you’ve solved the test. This way, you will perfect your vocabulary and you’ll get a
hang of reading better.

If you want, you can also read some simple B1-Level German texts online, just to get the
hang of reading.

HOEREN:

Now, this is the toughest bit.

Like Lesen, solve as many practice tests as possible. But if you want extra practice, go to
Deutsche Welle’s learning website and you’ll find excellent material there, to exercise
your German skills.

Moreover, you can also watch the German-dubbed versions of your favourite shows or
movies, say for example, Disney movies.

Also, you can watch these videos by this YouTube channel, “Easy German”. They are
very helpful and you get to learn the dialects as well.

Speaking of dialects, do go through the Austrian and Swiss dialects too!

SCHREIBEN:

Schreiben is one of those parts where you CAN score. So, do work really hard on it!

What I suggest is, use the Vocabulary and new Grammar Topics that you’ve learnt in B1
and make new sentences every day. Keep a target of at least five sentences per day.

For example: Wenn man eine Fremdsprache lernt, kann man nicht nur seine eigene
Persoenlichkeit entwickeln, sondern auch neue Kulturen erwerben.

Moreover, you must practice the Schreiben tests too and ask your friends or your
teacher to check them!

SPRECHEN:
If you work hard on Schreiben, your Sprechen will automatically be amazing!

In the first week, I suggest you begin by writing your presentations down. Then, later,
once you get the hang of the whole layout, you can begin by writing points for every
main points they’ve asked.

Plus, you can grab a friend and practice with them!

To improve hören Teil, one should First focus on Aussprache, which is Pronunciation, as
until your pronunciation isn't good, you won't be able to understand the words, because
you pronounce them according to you.

Now how you will improve your Aussprache and will it helps in other parts of exam, so
there are lot of videos based on German pronounciation on YouTube, your
pronounciation would be clear, for that YouTube videos will help, there is a FB page
called Bachelors in Germany, you can follow that page and on that page the Admin
Bharat Chaudhary is posting podcasts, so listen to those podcasts and text will also be
there, you just need to listen to it, by that both hören and sprechen will improve. There
is an app called Deutsch Lernen on play store, in that you find News Artikeln von
Deutsche Welle, listen to the Nachrichten and read the text at same time.

Moreover, whenever you're listening something try to write down the words which are
new to you, this will improve your vocabulary.

And rest, other people has also given their suggestions which I find very interesting, so
you can also follow what they have mentioned

I use 6 methods with students.

1. loop (make the segment run over and over till understood)
2. slow (VLC has this facility)
3. combo of above.
4. stop and start. (control number of words as per your focus)
5. Transcribe/transcription
6. perfect your knowledge of grammar
