Employment Portfolio & Resume Template

There is a difference between the kind of Academic Portfolio you may be required
to submit to graduate from an initial certification teacher education program and an
Employment Portfolio. An Employment Portfolio is used to sell yourself to a
prospective principal or school district. You bring it to the interview and share the
contents with the interviewers. The look of the portfolio will say as much about you as
the content itself.

Attributes of a Great Employment Portfolio

You should consider placing your material in the kind of leather binder that can be
purchased at most office supply stores. Among the criteria you should consider in
preparing an Employment Portfolio are:
1. Appearance
2. Duplication quality
3. Aesthetics of font, size, headings, etc
4. Spelling and grammar
5. Neatness
6. Completeness

Contents of a Great Employment Portfolio

1. Table of Contents
2. Index Tabs & Dividers
3. Statement of Professional Objectives – An essay about what you believe in and
how that will exhibit itself in your teaching.
4. Résumé (see following sample template).
5. Classroom Management Plan – An essay explaining your approach and your
classroom rules and penalties.
6. Sample Lesson Planning Calendar for a month or semester
7. Sample Lesson Plans – select your best lesson plans from mathematics, language
arts, social studies, and science.
8. Sample Traditional Exam
9. Sample Alternative Assessments
10. Teacher Education Program Documents
A. Transcript
B. Awards
C. State Teacher Exam Scores
11. Sample Student Documents – These are documents students produced while you
were in your internship.
12. Personal library list – a list of books that you refer to when planning instruction or
advice on child development, classroom management, motivation, etc.
13. Letters of recommendation.
What follows is a template for a model resume. You can tailor it to your needs.
Please note that in the Resume Template that follows, the table function of MSWord is used, however,
the table lines are set to not be visible when printed.
