What we believe about the Bible is absolutely
crucial. Whether we’ve never read it or read it
every day, each of us must make up our own mind
regarding this amazing book. Some people think

that it was written by many different, imperfect men
and must, therefore, contain errors. Others believe
it’s outdated and irrelevant for today because it was
written so long ago. However, many Christians are
convinced that the Bible is God’s Word, which He
has protected from error throughout the ages.
When we are fully assured that the Lord has given
us a book without errors, we have a strong
conviction that guides our lives.
A conviction is something we are so thoroughly
convinced is true that we’ll take a stand for it
regardless of the consequences; but a preference is a
belief that could change under certain conditions.
When we begin to understand the truth of God’s
Word, we’ll develop an awesome respect for the
Scriptures (Isa. 66:2). As we examine our lives, we
must determine whether we live by convictions or
preferences.
The Bible has a four-fold purpose:
To reveal the one true God, to explain how to be
saved and to teach us how to live a godly life.
To equip us to serve the Lord.
We can trust that the Bible is the absolute Word of
God.
It’s timeless. The truths of God are never outdated
and are applicable to every generation.
It’s infallible. Because the Lord inspired the authors,
the Bible is without error. However, because people
don’t like the conviction God’s Word brings, many
throughout history have not believed its truth.
The Word is the revelation of the one true God. In
this book the Lord has revealed who He is and has
provided answers and help for all our problems.
The Bible exposes man’s sinful, hopeless
condition. God’s Word tells us that we have all
sinned, and “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift
of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom.
6:23). Furthermore, someday “each one of us will
give an account of himself to God” (Rom. 14:12).
Scripture is a trustworthy guide for daily life. It
contains the answers to every problem, situation, or
concern we experience. However, to benefit from
God’s guidance, we must be faithful to read His Word
each day.
It shows us the consequences of sin. From the very
beginning, the Lord warned Adam and Eve of the
consequences of disobedience. He always tells us the
truth, even when it’s painful, and today He still
provides warnings for us if we will listen and heed
them.
God’s Word reveals His unconditional love for us.
His love isn’t based on anything we do or don’t do.
Just as parents love their children regardless of their
behavior, so the Lord continually loves His children.
The Bible explains how we can be saved from our
sins. God summed up His message of salvation in one
verse: “For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall
not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
The Word declares who Jesus is and why He came.
He is the Son of God who came to earth for the
purpose of dying on a cross to pay mankind’s sin debt
in full so those who believe in Him may be forgiven.
The Scriptures explain why Jesus was born of a
virgin. Without the virgin birth, Jesus would have
been a normal, sinful man and could not have paid for
our sins and become our Savior. Jesus had to be pure
and sinless, and the virgin birth was the only way to
accomplish this. Because He was God in human flesh,
He alone was qualified to die in our place.

With food manufacturers vying for your business, you
are exposed to all kinds of feel-good promises like
“low-fat,” “reduced sodium,” and “fortified with.”
But before you make your selection, you need to
know what these labels really advertise.
“Understanding the meaning behind the words can
have a positive impact on your food choices. You’ll
have a better idea of what to avoid or be careful
about.
Focusing on certain key words, such as calories,
sodium, fat, and vitamins and minerals. These often
are most important for seniors because they affect
their dietary needs.
For example, if you are watching your weight, you
need to pay attention to calories and fat. “People with
high blood pressure need to look closely at sodium
levels, and those with possible deficiencies may need
extra amounts of certain vitamins and minerals. Here
is a look at these four and the meaning behind the
label.
CALORIES:
Total calories per serving. The number of calories
listed may not be the product’s total calories. For
instance, if the label boasts 100 calories per serving,
but the number of servings is three, you will consume
300 calories if you eat the entire content.
Calorie-free: Fewer than five calories per serving. If
something has this low of calories, then generally it
has a higher percentage of chemicals. While this can
be beneficial for weight management, consuming
many products like this may displace ones with
important nutrients.
Low-calorie: 40 calories or fewer per serving.
Reduced-calorie: 25 percent fewer calories compared
with the original item and its serving size. “It is
important that one knows what the original product
contains.
Light or lite: 33 percent fewer calories compared with
the original and its original serving size. Follow the
same advice as with reduced calories. “If you are
used to consuming the original product, then
switching to the reduced calorie or light/lite version is
an improvement.”
FAT:
Reduced fat: 25 percent less fat per serving compared
with the original. Less fat often means more sugar to
make the product palatable.
Low-fat: Three grams of fat or less per serving.
Fat-free: less than 0.5 grams of fat per serving.
Trans-fat free: less than 0.5 grams of trans-fat per
serving. Trans fat will soon be removed from food
products, but until then the less, the better.
SODIUM:
Reduced sodium: At least 25 percent less sodium than
in the original product. Again, it is important to know
what the original product contain. But be careful as
reduced sodium can be deceiving. “A reduced

sodium version may still have 500 mg or higher of
sodium per serving because the original was so high.
Salt/sodium free: less than 5 mg of sodium per
serving.
Very low sodium: 35 mg or less per serving.
Low sodium: 140 mg or less per serving.
Light in sodium or lightly salted: At least 50 percent
less sodium than the regular product.
No-salt- or unsalted: No salt is added during
processing: however, it does not mean the food is
sodium free.
VITAMINS AND MINERALS: These are shown in
percentage of daily value, but are often based on a
2,000-calorie diet, which will be an overestimate for
many seniors since they often do not need as many
calories.
Excellent source of: The food has 20 percent or
higher of the daily value of that vitamin or mineral
per serving.
Good source of: The food has 10 to 19 percent of the
daily value of that vitamin or mineral per serving.
Enriched with: The vitamin or mineral was removed
during processing and then added back into the food,
“However, when the manufacturer adds the essential
vitamins, it never resembles the original food.”
Fortified with: The vitamins or mineral is not
naturally in the food. “When a product is fortified,
like with folic acid or vitamin D, it is like taking
additional supplementation.” “Over time this may be
an issue, so you should speak with your doctor before
consuming a lot of fortified products.”

arrangement. Adorn the sanctuary with your gift.

birthday, graduation, or any personal event) the

He Rose
In December the we celebrate the birth of our Lord
and Savior, Jesus the Christ. In April we celebrate
and rejoice in His resurrection. Below are some
information pertaining to Palm Sunday and the
Resurrection. I found it enlightening.
5 Things about Palm Sunday that Remind Us Christ is
King
1. God's Word tells us the people cut palm branches
and waved them in the air, laid them out on the
ground before Jesus as He rode into the city. The
palm branch represented goodness and victory and
was symbolic of the final victory He would soon
fulfill over death.
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is
your sting?” 1 Cor. 15:55
2. Jesus chose to ride in on a donkey, which directly
fulfilled Old Testament prophecy of Zech. 9:9. In
Biblical times, it was common for kings or important
people to arrive by a procession riding on a donkey.
The donkey symbolized peace, so those who chose to
ride them showed that they came with peaceful
intentions. Jesus even then reminded us that He is the
Prince of Peace.
"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O
daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming
to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble
and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a
donkey." Zech. 9:9
3. When the people shouted "Hosanna!" they were
hailing Christ as King. That word actually means
"save now," and though in their own minds they
waited for an earthly king, God had a different way in
mind of bringing true salvation to all who would trust
in Him.
"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the
LORD!" Ps. 118:26
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from
the dead, you will be saved." Rom. 10:9
4. The Bible says that Jesus wept for Jerusalem. In the
midst of the praise of the moment, He knew in His
heart that it wouldn't be long that these same people
would turn their backs on Him, betray Him, and
crucify Him. His heart broke with the reality of how
much they needed a Savior.
"As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he
wept over it, and said, "If you, even you, had only
known on this day what would bring you peace--but
now it is hidden from your eyes." Luke 19:41-42
5. Palm Sunday reminds us that the reign of Christ is
far greater than any the mind of man could ever
conceive or plan. Man looked for someone to fight
their battles in the present day world. Yet God had the

ultimate plan of sending His Son to fight the final
battle over death. This is the greatness of why we
celebrate this week. Because of Christ's ultimate
sacrifice, we can be set free of death.
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life;
he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,'"John
11:25
We have so much to be grateful for this week.
The enemy knows that, and you can bet, he's going to
do everything he can to try and distract us away from
the true meaning of what this Holy Week means.
Don't let him win.
In this Holy Week, may God direct our thoughts and
attention towards what matters most, Jesus Christ our
King...
Let's choose to focus on worshipping our Lord,
thanking Him for the gift of His sacrifice, celebrating
the power of the Resurrection, and the new life found
in Him alone.

"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!" 2 Cor.

What is Easter?
Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus
from the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion.
Easter is the fulfilled prophecy of the Messiah who
would be persecuted, die for our sins, and rise on the
third day. (Isaiah 53). Remembering the resurrection
of Jesus is a way to renew daily hope that we have
victory over sin. According to the New Testament,
Easter is three days after the death of Jesus on the
cross.
Easter follows a period of fasting called Lent, in
which many churches set aside time for repentance
and remembrance. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday
and ends on Good Friday, the day of Jesus'
crucifixion. The 40 day period was established by
Pope Gregory 1 using the 40-day pattern of Israel,
Moses, Elijah and Jesus' time in the wilderness.
The week leading up to Easter is called The Holy
Week, or "Passion Week", and includes Palm Sunday
(the day Jesus entered Jerusalem and was celebrated),
Maundy Thursday (the "Last Supper" where Jesus
met with his disciples to observe Passover), and Good
Friday (when Jesus would be crucified on the cross).
Easter is a very significant date within Christianity
and is the foundation of the Christian faith. Jesus, the
Son of God, fulfilled prophecy and through his death,
has given the gift of eternal life in heaven to those
who believe in his death and resurrection. Read the
entire Biblical account of Resurrection Day in
Matthew 28, Mark 16, and Luke 24.
