Rational

Year 1 Goals

Obviously, I want to join a BTSA program to clear my credential so I don’t lose it to a

mistake of waiting too long. However, I believe this is part of professional development because

one receives a lot of one on one mentoring. This mentoring comes through a master teacher and

will help myself develop applicable strategies that can be used in my classroom. I further

anticipate connecting with my department on a personal level to develop trust within the work

place. Teachers need to trust one another so constructive criticism can be applied without hurting

someone’s feelings. Additionally, I plan to connect with my master teachers because they have

strategies and organization that has been proven to work. It can be hard being new and having

ideas that just won’t work for the situation I am in. This is why I will look to those who have

done this job for a while and have experienced what I am going through. Lastly, I plan to add to

my website in creating pages for my units to become more developed in this 21st century.
FIVE YEAR PLAN 3

Students prefer being online and using technology and it is time I join in the club. This will also

help me assess activities and make changes for the following year.

Year 2 Goals

The reason I will continue with the GOPHERS seminars are because they’re an easy way

to gather information on what others are doing in their classroom, at their school, and in their

community. These seminars come out once a month and are only an hour long. I can spend one

prep period learning how to do something better. This is very valuable and a great way to

advance my professional development. I would also like to attend the SHAPE conference in Salt

Lake city, Utah. I can earn roughly 25 credits over the course of this weekend. This is something

that will help me in my school district as far as pay is concerned, but I am looking into this for

the knowledge of the events. I would be able to see demonstrations and meet Physical Education

teachers from all over the country.

Year 3 Goals

First, I would love to attend the PEACH conference in my third year. During the first two

years I would mainly be sticking close to home with my fellow coworkers. However, now I

would like to branch out and start attending conferences. This is a great way to see how common

core is being implemented in physical education today. I would gain credits for my professional

development, but this would depend highly on what I attend. Furthermore, I need to enroll in a

technology course around this time. I know I tend to fall into old habits as I move through life. I

anticipate myself going back to how I was taught and I do not want this to happen. I need to

remember that technology is the way of the future. My students deserve to learn in a way that

suits them and I should be able to provide this. Learning more about technology will improve my

teaching and make me look even more professional in this competitive job market.

Year 4 Goals

I have always wanted to attend the CAHPERD conference, but it is always during

football, which is the sport I coach. However, by my fourth year I should have a little say as what

to do and could take a little time away to progress in my professional development. This

conference focuses on quality teaching, inclusion, research, leadership, advocacy and wellness.

Physical education is changing and teachers need to see first-hand how it needs to be taught. We

are moving away from direct instruction and skills tests and going to learning games for

understanding. CAHPERD has done an excellent job utilizing researched based strategies for

teaching and should be looked to when notices the success in their class is dropping.

Year 5 Goals

I saved the Glacier clinics for my fifth year because of the importance I put on physical

education. In my opinion teaching comes first before coaching. I love to coach, but my first job

is to teach. However, I need to improve on my coaching because of the teaching job I hold. So, I

plan to attend three Glacier clinics this year that will give me knowledge on how to be a great

head coach as well as schemes within the packages I run. Lastly, I want to join a leadership

council in order to further develop my skills as a leader. This will also give me a different look

into my site and allow me to help other new or struggling teachers.
