Recorded September 15 and 23, 1947, in Kingsway Hall, London. Issued as English

in January, 1948. Issued in the USA in 1953 as an LP, Columbia ML 4775 (coupled
with Dennis Brain's 1947 recording of Strauss' Horn Concerto No. 1). The side and
matrix information:

Side 1 (CAX 10030-2): First movement (Allegro moderato), part 1

Side 2 (CAX 10031-1): First movement, part 2
Side 3 (CAX 10032-2): Second movement, part 1 (Andante)
Side 4 (CAX 10033-4): Second movement, part 2 (Andante; Cadenza)
Side 5 (CAX 10037-1): Third movement, part 1 (Vivace)
Side 6 (CAX 10038-1): Third movement, part 2 (Cadenza; Vivace)

Strauss made revisions to the score, the most substantial involving expanding the
coda from seventeen bars to twenty-nine, before publishing it in 1948. This
recording was made prior to these revisions, and is one of the few, if not the
only, recordings to represent the original version of the piece.
