PROBLEM STATEMENT: In this problem, we are simulating a flash-drum using 3

components methanol, n-butanol and water. As per given we have 2 streams, first containing
methanol & n-butanol & second one of water which are mixed thoroughly using a mixer
which is then flash into a column by passing through a pump.

PROCESS FLOWSHEET:

SPECIFICATION:

stream 1 stream 2
Methanol 0.4 0
n-butanol 0.6 0
Water 0 1
Temperature (0C) 80 50
Pressure (atm) 1 1
Flowrate(kmol/hr) 150 100

Pump: 1. discharge pressure- 10 atm;

2. inlet pressure- 1 atm

3. pump efficiency- 0.8

4. driver efficiency- 0.7

Flash-drum: 1. pressure-1.5 atm

2. temperature- 100 0C

3. horizontal alignment
