Dear Governor Cooper,

I am a ninth-grade student at Kinston High School, in Kinston, North Carolina. I’m

currently enrolled in Occupational Course of Study (OCS) Applied Science. In this class we
have been studying climate change because as you can see people like to throw they trash on
the ground. This is an issue because trash can harm the environment. What I propose can be
done is to get a group of people and help clean up our town, so we clean town and protect our
people, animals and the environment as a whole from danger. This is important because our in
our community are dying because people leave trash everywhere. This also has a negative
impact on animals, as well.

One topic I have specifically studied and researched at length in OCS Applied Science is
recycling. This topic means that recycling is a very big think in our community because people
putting they trash either in the wrong bin or on the ground which is crazy because you should
always recycle your trash because it can useful to some people. I think this is an issue worth
advocating for because people just don't know how to throw they trash in the right bin.

I ask you to support the process of recycling because it has an impact on the environment. I
want people to learn to throw their trash in the appropriate bins, including recycling bins. We can
teach people this by putting bins in parks, schools, gas stations and many other places. I think
informing people about recycling is important because when you recycle, you can renew
products. It is important to reduce, reuse, recycle.

This is important in Kinston, my home, specifically because there aren’t that many trash and
recycling bins in town. This discourages people from recycling, as they are not informed about it
and there isn’t access to these bins. This can destroy the environment, cause storms and
increase global warming. One big storm we had in Kinston was Hurricane Florence which
destroyed property, lives, and kept us out of school for almost two weeks. Lots of homes in
Kinston were flooded, which is because Kinston is a bad flood zone. Because they damaged a
lot of things.

This will have an impact not only on my community, but across the state, nation and even the
globe.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Taliya Washington
