Olympic Station: Footbridge A (2 span, 94m long); B (single span, 37m
long); C (4 span, 145m long); A1 (2 span, 49m long) and C1 (3 span, 70m
long). The footbridges were all post-tensioned concrete construction
founded on a mixture of end-bearing and friction piles. All were designed
with the strength and stability plus the physical space to allow future enclose
and installation of air conditioning.
Full geotechnical, civil and structural services for this 150m long, 6m wide
footbridge. The twin cable-stayed structure, built over the MTR Tung Chung
and Airport Express Lines and the West Kowloon Expressway incorporated
a steed framed pylon above deck with RC pier below to resist both lateral
and longitudinal loading. This aesthetic engineered solution addressed the
combination of pier height, wind loading and long spans and gained early
support from the ACABAS Committee. [Meinhardt, in joint venture with
Works Consultancy and Robert Benaim Asia.]
