NORTH-EAST DIRECTION

For a long time, I could not understand why North-East direction is given the
most importance. Most of the plots in a layout are booked earlier than all other plots.
Most of the entrances in north-east are considered auspicious. I explain here in brief, the
importance of north-east direction.

1. Element: In our traditional Vaasthu,

direction. 3/4 of the earth andw3/4 of human body is composed of water and it is the most
abundant element on earth. We cannot survive with out water for more than 3 days. Life
begins in water and water sustains growth of life. In our puranas, matsya avatar was the
first incarnation of Lord Vishnu and story is a small fish comes in to the hands of Satyavath
muni in river and requests protection. He keeps it in a small pot and as the fish grows he
transfers it to well --> pond --> lake --> river --> ocean as it grows in size. The essence of
the story is life begins in water and expands.
When we plant seeds in earth, it requires water to germinate. In mothers womb
the baby is surrounded by amniotic fluid (98% water) in which it grows.

In Vaasthu, water indicates flow of money. Any leakages of water is said to bring

direction is Eshwara (GOD). In all religions, GOD

is considered as the creator of this universe and in hindu religion, we personify GOD in
the form of Lord Shiva and Ganga (sacred water) flows from his hair on to the earth.
Also the head of Vaasthu Purusha is in North-East direction and any imbalance in this
zone is said to bring problems related to head (nervous system).
3. Direction Planet : Jupiter is the planet of this direction. It is the largest planet which
is 318 times massive than earth, 11.2 times larger than earth and gravitational pull 2.4
times of earth. It completes one rotation in 10 hours. When such a huge planet spins with

Now what our sages speak about

children, money and wealth. He is considered as jeeva karaka (one who creates life
energy) and vaakshudhi (speech promoter).
 Jupiter is a planet of expansion and growth. It is related to Vishudhi Chakra (Vish
Shudhi - Detoxifier of Poison) in some of the traditional books and Lord Shiva is
depicted to hold poison in his throat. Even though, it is located at the place of water, and

of Jupiter. A door (or window where door is not possible) is considered auspicious in this
direction. The diagonally opposite direction (South-West) is occupied by Rahu and Ketu
(Shadow planets) without any weight, the South-West should be kept heavy to balance
the energy of both directions.

North-East is the zone which has it's impact on all members of family hence, we
need to take proper care and attention to this zone.
