    A stronger tundish for higher productivity

    Continuous casting starts in the tundish. A strong, stable tundish is crucial for high
    productivity. Given its importance, SMS Concast took a fresh look at this critical
    process step, conducting simulations that used advanced finite element analysis and
    computational fluid dynamics. The result is an optimized, highly stable tundish design
    that assures safe operation, increased productivity and a longer service life.

    Application
    The SMS Concast Long Life Tundish has a specially
    designed structure and optimized refractory to resist
    high deflection forces and heat loads. It can be used
    with casters for billets, blooms and beam blanks and
    also for flying tundish/link casting.
    A Concast Long Life Tundish is a good choice for:

    • Billet casters with 6 to 10 strands


    • SMS Concast Bloom casters with up to 13m tundish
    lengths
    • Casters with long casting sequences of 20 hours
