Classroom Management Philosophy

Classroom Management Philosophy

Establishing classroom management is such a vital key to running a successful

classroom. Without putting expectations or classroom procedures in place, students won’t

necessarily know what is acceptable behavior.. It is important to establish these guidelines early

in the school year to ensure a smooth, organized classroom.

Without initiating some sort of classroom expectations or classroom procedures it is

going to be hard to keep students focused, on task, and engaged. If student are not following the

classroom rules then there is a high chance they are not engaged in what is being taught, which is

taking away from their learning. Also, if there is a routine involved students will know what is

coming next.

For starters, I want to establish the procedures, routines, and classroom rules on the first

day of school. I will do this by incorporating visuals throughout the classroom. We will go over

these rules, routines, and expectations until I can see that it has become second nature to them. I

hope by using visuals, instead of telling a student to stop talking, I am able to practice and

routinely use non-verbal communication. I would like to get to the point where if a student is

talking in the line, I am able to point to the “When In Line” procedures and then he/she can fix

their behavior without either of us saying a word. Routines and expectations will be displayed

throughout the room so they are able to reference it when needed.

Every student is going to be different and not one student is going to learn the same, so it

is important to build a student-teacher relationship with each student. By doing this you will get

to know, not only the behaviors, but the learning styles of each student. Keeping the content

exciting and fun can cater to a lot of diverse needs of students. This can also achieve those

instructional goals. I believe that one way to keep a positive classroom environment and to

involve families is to focus on the positive. It is so incredibly important to the student and the

families to feel that success. A teacher can communicate this success to families to keep them

involved. If you show that you care, they will care.
