Over the past four decades, Temasek Junior College has developed a strong culture of
excellence and high standards in the Performing Arts. As we turn 42 this year, we
continue to celebrate Temasek Excellence, our unique brand of holistic excellence which
develops greatness in our students’ intellect, character and leadership. The Performing
Arts Personal Development Programmes (PDPs) are vital platforms for holistic education,
as they imbue in our students the qualities of passion, resilience and discipline.

As part of TJC’s tradition, annual public performances are staged to give our students the
opportunity to fulfill their ambition of sharing their love for the Performing Arts. This year,
we have an exciting series of performances which will captivate the imagination of our
audiences. There will be six concerts to showcase the talents and dynamism of our
students in the Chinese Drama Club, the Chinese Orchestra, the Choir, the English
Drama Club, the Guitar Ensemble, and the Symphonic Band. The performing arts groups
have also done us proud at this year’s SYF Arts Presentations – it is very satisfying to see
how much our students have developed in their character and grown in their craft over the
last few months in their preparations for their performances and presentations. These
students have indeed displayed great Temasek team spirit and camaraderie in the
process.

The 2019 TJC Performing Arts concerts would not be possible without the Passion,
Purpose and Drive of everyone involved. I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation
to each and every one of them — the passionate students of the various Performing Arts
PDPs, the dedicated teachers and instructors, our zealous alumni, as well as our
supportive parents.

Thank you for your support in creating a vibrant Arts scene at Temasek Junior College,
and please enjoy what our students have lovingly put up for all of you.

TJC Guitar Ensemble
The TJC Guitar Ensemble clinched the Gold with Honours Award
in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging in
the years 2005 and 2007, as well as the Silver Award in the years
2009 and 2011. In 2013, the Ensemble was awarded the coveted
Certificate of Distinction, and in 2015 and 2017, the IP and JC
ensembles were awarded the Certificate of Accomplishment. In
the recently concluded SYF Arts Presentation this year, the IP and
JC ensembles were awarded the Certificate of Accomplishment
and Certificate of Distinction respectively, for their sterling
performances!

Our Instructors
MS ANGELYN WEE is an active performer on the
piano and guitar, as well as an educator, arranger, music conductor
and coordinator. She has been teaching
and conducting several guitar ensembles
in Singapore, from primary to junior
colleges, for 8 years now.
MR TERENCE CHOO is a dedicated and passionate
guitarist with a well-embellished record. He is a Guitar Coach,
Conductor (Guitar Ensemble) and founder of Music Impact Global
Pte Ltd. A leader with a heart, he has spent
almost 2 decades teaching and
encouraging more than 1500 students
from MOE schools and non-profit
organisations to fulfil their musical
aspirations, or simply to find joy in
music.

AURORA XXIII: ODYSSEY

Aurora XXIII is the twenty-third concert staged by the Temasek
Junior College Guitar Ensemble.

The theme, Odyssey, delves into what our various experiences in

life can offer us. Through both the ensemble’s and our personal
introspective journeys, we have discovered that it is about
growth, adventure and the human spirit of resilience.

Our theme revolves around the ups and downs of exploration,

with our songs capturing the vast spectrum of emotion one faces
in their journey.  Tonight, we invite you to come aboard our
voyage as we perform a series of pieces, each exploring a new
part of ourselves.

Gavotte
Gavotte Op. 6 No. 10 is a lively piece composed by
a German composer George Frideric Handel. Did
you know that a gavotte is a French dance? This
music piece has a cheerful beat that simply makes
you want to break out in a dance! Let the Odyssey
begin!

Believer
Believer is an invigorating song by Imagine
Dragons. A song about overcoming tough times
and refusing to crumble under external pressures,
it is sure to ignite a fire in your heart and pump you
up!

Mountains in Autumn
Mountains in Autumn composed by Watanabe Urato
is a piece that immerses you in an exciting journey
through the perils and tranquility of the autumn
mountains. Sit tight as turbulence hits!
Slavonic Dance
Slavonic Dance composed by Antonín Dvořák, a Czech
composer, is a song that showcases rhythms of Slavic
Folk Music. Lively and full of national character, this piece
will surely have you off of your seats!

reminiscing past days of joy. Join us as we immerse
ourselves in nostalgia and consolidate the memories of our
journey thus far.

Everything I Need
Everything I Need (Skylar Grey), featured in the recent
movie Aquaman, is a song of identity and acceptance, and
finding oneself in the reflection of those who love you. Feel
free to sing along to this popular track!
你好不好
你好不好 (Eric Chou) is a wistful song about a lost love,
reminiscent of days past, a reflection on past decisions
and experiences. It is directed to one's past lover; asking
her how life has been without him.

Love Scenario
Titled 'Song of the Year' in 2018, Love Scenario (iKON)
recalls the beautiful memories between two lovers in the
past. The song talks about how one realises that
sometimes it is best for both parties if they part ways with
one another. However, it is okay to look back and relive the
good memories shared between the two of you!

La Cumparsita
La Cumparsita is a tango written in 1916 composed by
Uruguayan musician Gerardo Matos Rodriguez. One of the
most famous tangos of all time, it is sure to put you in a
celebratory mood. After all, “cumparsita” does come from
“comparsa”, meaning carnival!
Summer Rain
Summer Rain composed by Kevin Love expresses feelings
born while watching the rain from the front porch. A
refreshing, light-hearted, soul-cleansing piece that will fill
you with peace.

A Cruel Angel's Thesis

A Cruel Angel’s Thesis is the opening theme song of the
1995 television anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion. It
is a song of hope and dreams, of discovering one’s strength
and courage to persevere through dark times and emerge
shining brighter than before.
