As I have demonstrated in the table above, I have a clear plan for the trajectory of my career

for the next five to ten years. My main objective is to own a private tutoring service that caters to

students with special needs and learning disabilities. In order to achieve this goal, I have laid out

other smaller goals that will help me develop the skills needed to open and run my own business.

To begin, I will complete a master’s degree in “Orthopédagogie” in two years at l’Université de

Montréal. Starting this September, I will begin this master’s degree to develop my knowledge on

the specific strengths and challenges students with special needs face in a school setting. During

this master’s program I will also develop my time management skills, as well as, my French writing

skills.

Once I have completed my master’s degree, I will look for a teaching position at an

international school. I seek to work in an IB school specifically because their program is inquiry

based and they have rigorous academic standards for students. Their offer many opportunities for

professional development for their educators as well as opportunities to collaborate with schools

across the world. As a French immersion teacher or a teacher in a ‘classe d’accueil’, I will develop

my classroom management skills as well as my risk-taking skills by implementing innovative unit

plans wherein students learn through self-directed projects and authentic tasks. After having

worked as a teacher for a while – 3-5 years – I will be ready to move on to the next part of my

professional development.

Following my career as a teacher I will take the necessary steps to open my own private

tutoring service specialized on the specific needs of student with special needs and learning

disabilities. During my time as a teacher I will complete a certificate or a second master’s in

business management. This will help me develop some management skills, financial management

1
and marketing skills. These skills will be instrumental to the success of my business. Further, with

my previous experiences, I will have all the necessary qualifications to run a successful business.
