INTRODUCTION

The work immersion is part of the Senior High School Curriculum of the Department of
the Education (DepEd) in which students will experience the actual job and work guidelines that
stimulated in every companies. This work immersion is not an actual agreement to work they
have no training but rather a process in which students demonstrate the process of working and
improve the knowledge on schools.

Immersion is important because it can help the students to more familiar with the realities
of working either they pursue a degree or not. Also it provides an experience to every student to
face the real world reality in the future, and to discover the opportunities what awaits from them
after they graduate from school. Through this immersion, the students are exposed to and
become familiarized with work related to their field and specialization. Work Immersion will
help to enhance the skills of the students and will prepare them to make decisions on what will
they take course on college. The students learn discipline organization and people skills while
they train out in the workforce. Work Immersion is one of the requirements before a students
graduate on Senior High School.
As the students are still minors, DepEd said work immersion requires parental consent.
President Aquino, the different government institution involved in education, and Congress has
since made K to 12 a reality rather than a mere ideal. As I looked over the paradigm created by
the steering committee of the K to 12 reform programs, however, I suddenly realized that we had
overlooked a major gap in the system. The curriculum has been reengineered from pre-school to
tertiary general education. It is now seamless without disruptions caused previously by
bureaucratic structures. We have firmly agreed on what students should know and able to do
after 12 years of basic education or more (if they will go to college). What is missing is a clear
idea of what the term “immersion” implies. “Work Immersion consisting of 80 hours of hands-
on experience of work simulation which Grade 12 will undergo to expose them to the actual
workplace setting and to enrich the competencies provided by the school under the supervision
of the School Head and designated personnel of the Partner.”

OBJECTIVES

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners the
competencies, work ethic, and the values relevant to pursuing further education and joining the
world of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic education and the nation’s
development targets. Work Immersion a required subject, has been incorporated into the
curriculum. This subject will provide learners with opportunities:
1. To become familiar with the workplace
2. For employment simulation
3. To apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subject in authentic
work environments.
To achieve the above objectives, Work Immersion is thus a requirement for graduation
from secondary education. Learners are immersed in actual work environments such as
workshops offices and laboratories in which their prior training is relevant.
Work immersion will help develop among the learner’s life career skills, and will prepare
them to make decisions on postsecondary education or employment. Through partnership
building, DepEd hopes that Partner Institutions will provide learners with work immersion
opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience, and additional learning sources. It aims to
make learners:
1. Appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories learned in
school.
2. Enhance their technical knowledge and skills
3. Enrich their skills in communication and human relations
4. Develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation and respect for work.
By the time learners reach Senior High School, they would have already acquired almost all the
competencies and skills that would prepare them for the curriculum exits (higher education,
employment, middle-skills development and entrepreneurship). Work immersion provides them
with an avenue to test them and apply what they have learned in a non-school scenario. In wok
immersion learners are not only able to apply their previous training but are also able to
experience the social interactions in a work environment. Their experience during work
immersion will develop many skills and values that would help them as they transition from high
school to real life.

HOW TO CONDUCT ONESELF INSIDE THE COMPANY/WORKPLACE

In the workplace, proper conduct marks you as a professional by following and accepted
the rules. You can let your employers and colleagues know that you are able to present a quality
image to clients. Although the workplace culture is different in every company, a set of the basic
standards for dress, communication and conduct will serve you well in any position, as you learn
more about your company or workplace, tailor your behavior to fit the atmosphere.
Dress modestly and appropriately for you industry. No matter what position or style of
dress in your company or workplace, aim to be clean, pressed, modest and neat. Come to work
with clean hair, practice good hygiene. And be friendly and respectful to colleagues, managers.
Follow the chain of command. To avoid angering your superiors bring any concerns or ideas to
the person immediately above you. Do the same for both positive and negative feedback to
demonstrate respect for your managers and to establish that you made every effort to keep the
required people in the loop. And keep your personal life at home. Although you cannot always
stop your non-work life from affecting your behavior and feeling, keep it to minimum. If you are
an emotional wreck, let your boss know and take a personal day. Do not bring into the office
your personal anger, relationship problem or financial woes.

COMPANY HISTORY

In 1578, Fray Juan de Plasencia and Fray Diego de Oropesa, two Franciscan
missionaries from Spain founded the town of Tayabas in order to spread
Christianity to its natives. Prior to the occupation, however, the native Tayabenses
lived in rural settings typical to those times, with barangays headed by village
chiefs and councils of elders.
From 1749 to 1901, Tayabas was the capital of the Province of Tayabas, now
known as Quezon. In the 19th century, Tayabas was among the biggest towns in
the country. Its Minor Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, which was enlarged in
the mid-1850s, is the longest church in the country and is a lasting testament to its
glorious and historic past.
In more than three centuries of Spanish occupation, only eight cities and towns
were given the title of Villa, and Tayabas was one of them. These are La Villa del
Santisimo Nombre de Jesus de Cebu in 1565, La Villa de Santiago de Libon (Albay,
1573), La Villa Fernandina de Vigan (Ilocos, 1574), La Villa Rica de Arevalo (Iloilo,
1581), La Noble Villa de Pila (Laguna, 1610), La Muy Noble Villa de Tayabas,
(Tayabas, 1703), La Villa de Bacolor (Pampanga, 1765), La Villa de Lipa (Batangas,
1887). Interestingly, that Tayabas was given the title of 'most noble' villa even
before it became the provincial capital shows its importance even before 1749.
In the book "The Philippines," written by French traveler Jean Baptiste Mallat,
and published in 1846, it appears that Tayabas had more than 21,000 people at
that time. This was reduced to 16,000 when Lucena became an independent town
in 1879. Due to low population growth during the Spanish period, this number
remained unchanged until the coming of the Americans.
Tayabas is at the center of the province's long-settled heartland, which
possessed the best lands, the oldest parishes, and the most active commercial
centers. The provincial heartland was described by Pres. Manuel L. Quezon as
having the "richest and gayest places in the province."
Tayabas has many places of interest. Its Casa Comunidad, a centuries-old
building, is the place where Apolinario "Hermano Pule" Dela Cruz was tried and
sentenced to death in 1841. It was restored in the 1990s through funds donated by
the "Friends of Casa Comunidad," an organization of affluent Manila-based
Tayabenses.

Its numerous Spanish-era bridges mirror its rich architectural past. Two of the
longest are the Malagonlong and the Malaoa bridges. Malagonlong's high and
beautiful arches and its solid design are some of the reasons why it was declared a
national historical site. It is so strong that it withstood the dynamites planted there
to stop the Japanese advance during World War II.
Tayabas suffered a terrible blow near the end of World War II when it was
completely burned to the ground after a bombing raid on March 15, 1945. Prior to
that, the old houses of Tayabas rivalled those of Vigan's Spanish-era structures.
