A LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of Geometry of shapes and sizes,
and geometric relationships.
B. Performance Standard The learner is able to create models of plan figures and formulate and solve accurately
authentic problems involving sides and angles of a polygon
C. Learning Competency/ M7GE-IIIe-2
Objectives 1. Identify a polygon and its different parts.
Write the LC code for each. 2. Illustrate the different classifications of polygons.
3. Appreciate the value of polygons to real-life situations.

II. CONTENT
POLYGONS
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Materials pages 214-219
3. Textbook pages Our World of Math G7Kto12,pp. 291-293
4. Additional Materials from https://www.google.com.ph/s Search-polygon

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Drill: Reviewing previous lesson Activtiy 1.
or presenting the new lesson “Take a Look”

The class will be divided into four groups. Each group will list different kinds of polygon they
observe from the tangram. They will be given three minutes to look at the tangram. The
group that has the highest number of polygon listed will receive the highest points.

B. Motivation: Establishing a Activity 2:

purpose for the lesson MATCHING TYPE

Match the Greek prefix from Column A to its meaning in Column B. Write your answer on the space
provided
COLUMN A COLUMN B
_______1. Hepta a. A shape with five sides
_______2. Tri b. A shape with seven sides
_______3. Penta c. Four sides
_______4. Octa d. A shape with 6 sides
_______5. Quad e. Nine side
_______6.Hexa f. A shape with 10 sides
_______7.Nona g. Eight sides
_______8. deca h. Is a numerical prefix meaning
three.
C. Presenting examples/Instances Based on the previous activtiy, what do you think is our lesson for today?
of the new lesson
Student A: I think our lesson for today is all about Polygons.

Teacher: Very good student A.

D. Discussing new concepts and The word “Polygon" comes from the Greek word “poly” which means many
practicing new skills # 1 and “gon” which means angles.

1
Polygons are classified as convex or concave. A polygon is convex if all
segments joining any two points of the polygon lie completely inside the
polygon, otherwise the polygon is concave

E. Discussing new concepts and Convex Polygons: Concave Polygons:

practicing new skills # 2

The different types of polygons in terms of congruency of parts are equilateral, equiangular,
and regular. A polygon is equilateral if all its sides are equal; equiangular if all its angles are
equal; and regular if it is both equilateral and equiangular.

Polygons are also classified according to the number of sides. Common names for polygons
are listed:
3 – Triangle 8 - octagon n – n-gon
4 – Quadrilateral 9 – Nonagon
5 – Pentagon 10 - Decagon
6 – Haxagon 11 - Undecagon
7 – heptagon 12 - Dodecagon
F. Developing mastery Activity 3: Illustrate the following:
(leads to Formative Assessment 4) 1. Regular Polygon
2. Concave Polygon
3. Dodecagon
G. Finding practical application of Activity 4.
concepts and skills in daily living Group activity:
Draw a house or something that you can see around you and apply the different polygons
that you know in a piece of a cartolina or Manila paper.

H. Making generalizations and Polygons are closed figures made up of three or more line segments joined at their endpoint.
abstractions about the lesson
A polygon is convex if all segments joining any two points of the polygon lie completely inside
the polygon otherwise it is concave.

A polygons is regular if all the sides and all the angles are congruent.
I. Evaluating learning Answer the following questions:
1. are closed figures made up of three or more line segments
joined at their endpoint. POLYGONS
2. A polygon having 5 sides. PENTAGON
3. A polygon having 8 sides. OCTAGON
4. A polygon is _________ if all the sides and all the angles are
congruent. REGULAR
5. How many side are there in a heptagon? 7 SIDES
J. Additional activities for 1. Cut and paste illustrations or pictures in the real life where
application or remediation polygons can be seen. Give at least 5.
V. REMARKS

additional activities for
remediation who scored below
80%
C. Did the remedial lessons work?
No. of learners who have caught
up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies
worked well? Why did these
work?
