This document discusses considerations for strength and conditioning coaches when getting athletes back from injury. It notes that coaches must weigh the rate of investment versus risk of reinjury when developing return plans. Key factors to consider include the sport, type and history of injury, and athlete's age and maturity level. Regaining full dorsiflexion is important to prevent reinjury, as lack of mobility can shift compensation to the lower back. The coach's philosophy is to focus on mobility, stability, dynamic control, and functional progression when returning athletes to sport.

- High school doesnt have as much pressure as collegiate level - Getting athlete back - Sport level - Type of injury - Acute, chronic, history (much information as possible because it could be direct impact or chronic that stemmed from history - daily habits) - carry bookbags, or sit in desk at school - Age is a big thing when it comes to injury - GROWTH PLATE INJURY, maturity level. - NEED TO WEIGH ROI’s versus each other for treating athlete - RATE OF INVESTMENT vs RISK OF INJURY - RATE OF INVESTMENT - This is the action that the athlete performs or treatment that is done to them that will eventually cause an OUTCOME - RISK OF INJURY - This is the OUTCOME that you are concerned about. You dont want a negative outcome to come from what is invested. ALSO. if the outcome is not significant then maybe the investment is also not worth it or necessary - QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER: - Is what you are putting the athlete through WORTH what they could get out of the exercise? - Is it too much too fast? - How long have they been out? - You need to weigh these different questions out together to make the best decision for the athlete. You don’t want to reinjure/ injure something else to athlete - - Sprain an ankle - Lose dorsiflexion - Ligament never really recovers - Low back pain - HIS JOB - His philosophy in progression - Mobility first - Stability next - Tranisiton into dynamic stability, control themselves in space - Functional - Big predictor of reinjury is that if you can’t get the dorsiflexion back - If he shifts then one side isn’t firing the glute medius - So he has to extend at the lower back instead of his glute medius firing for stabilization
