HELLO BAGGERS!
My name is Miguel Cortes from St. Louis, Missouri. My father lives in Cleveland, Ohio,
and we meet up once a year for a ride. I ride a 2000 Road King, and Pops rides a 2009
Ultra. This year we met in St. Louis and rode to Key West, Florida. It was an adventure
to say the least! From a dead battery to a blown rectifier repair on the side of a Florida
turnpike, we made the journey and had a blast. My bike has been in 44 contiguous states,
and I hope to knock out the last four in the next few years! I love your magazine and just
wanted to share my trip this year. Keep the rubber side down and safe travels, my friends!
MIGUEL
Sounds like you’ve logged a ton of great miles and, even more importantly, made a ton of great
memories with your pops! Hope you guys check off the last states and have a blast doing so!
BAGGERS MAGAZINE,
I’d be honored if you published my picture!
I was riding to Street Vibrations in Reno,
crossing McKenzie Pass on Route 242 in
Oregon, when I saw the lava fields with
a rainbow in the background. It was a

Hey, Owen. We hear ya. We were trying
something a little bit different with that cover
and feature on the Ness bike—little more glitz
and glam than normal. While most people loved
that issue, others were downright pissed about
it. I guess that’s what happens when you take
chances. But we’ll continue to ride fast and take
chances. Thanks for the letter!
HELLO BAGGERS,
I find it ironic (and kind of pathetic) that the
MoCo is all jacked up about developing an
engine pretty much like Kawasaki did in 1996
with the Vulcan 1500. From my experience,
H-D customers should be pleased.

Freedom Performance
Turnout 2-1
W ould you believe that Freedom Performance
President Martin Arteaga sketched the
concept of the new Turnout 2-1 exhaust pipe on a
napkin prior to it now being available for the bagger
lineup? It’s funny how great ideas come to fruition
in the most simplistic ways sometimes.
The Freedom Performance Turnout is
anything but simple though, after
going through rigorous testing
and real-world evaluations for
more than two years now. But
now, ladies and germs, the
new exhaust is ready and
waiting for your Harley
Touring model.
THE FACTS
The Turnout 2-1 features triple-stepped headers starting from 1.75 inches to 1.875 inches to 2 inches
and includes a two-step baffle from 2.5 inches to 3 inches to give it a deep, throaty sound. The Turnout
2-1 also claims to increase performance with a claimed output of 15 more horsepower over stock
and 13 to 15 more pound-feet of torque over stock. Plus, it also claims to reduce heat by 30 percent. It
includes all mounting hardware and oxygen sensor bungs to fit multiple model Harley baggers.
FIT
Fits ’09–’16 Harley-Davidson Touring models.
FINISH
The exhaust itself is available in black or chrome finish.

Wow this place sounds pretty sweet, right? Somewhere you could really
unwind and spend some quality “me” time. The website I’m reading from
goes on to say, “The Old Vermilion _______ is within walking distance of
all of the attractions that Vermilion has to offer, including shopping, fine

TOURING
By now you’re thinking, okay, this is easy.
_______ is a resort or spa hotel. The kind of
place a desperate man takes his woman to
when he’s swinging for the fences. When he’s
either really sorry or he really wants to get
laid. _______ is a place where he can show
up with confidence knowing he made the
right choice. Right…
The website is from Ohio’s Old
Vermillion Jailhouse B&B (jailbed.com).
That’s right, jailhouse. Only in America is
there an industry committed to providing
its customers the most pleasant and
comfortable stay in the place you spend your
entire life avoiding. It’s an interesting stop
on the food chain if you think about it—a
national network of businesses surviving
on people’s fascination with going to the
clink. It’s a safe peek into the abyss of human
suffering and mental torture, a fun place
to spend the afternoon with the family
congratulating you on your life choices.
I learned about the Old Vermillion
Jailhouse thanks to Debra at the Old Jail Inn
Parke County (oldjailinn.com) in Indiana. I
did a story on her wonderful penal institution
in a previous story for Baggers a few years
back. If you’re a glass half full kind of person,
the influx of national prison construction
has created a lot of new opportunities for
outdated prisons to be transformed to
museums and bed and breakfasts.
The Old Vermilion Jailhouse B&B is a
private inn that can accommodate up to
four guests who get private use of the
600-square-foot facilities. Originally built
as the town library in 1935, the building
was later transformed into a jail in 1958. The
jailhouse took on its current incarnation in
2013 and now offers a room with one queen
bed, which the shortest guy of our group,
Caballero, took. The other two rooms are tiny
jail cells each with a single bed. Note: Jordan
and I are both over 6 feet. Thanks, Cab.
Actually, the smaller beds are pretty comfy.
Nightly and weekly rates are available
and include free breakfast. When I asked
Steve how he enjoyed spending the night
in prison by choice, he had this to say: “What
was awesome was how they persevered (Above): Steve Caballero catching some zees while protecting his coveted skateboard from potential inmates/

FIRST TIMER
// In June of 2015, at the age of 46, Raymond
Cole finally was in a position to get his
motorcycle endorsement. A month later, he
purchased his first bike: a 2013 Honda Phantom.
It was bone stock except for the passenger
backrest. Now a year later, Ray added a Memphis
Shades Batwing fairing with 9-inch windshield
and lower wind deflectors. A friend gave him a
set of bags, which Ray had to make a custom
mounting plate (in the shape of a Batman logo).
And all in all, Raymond’s racked up 2,000 miles so
far and plans on adding many more.
