Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

In this lesson my students will be getting a visual and verbal idea, so they can fully comprehend the content.
Closed captioning will be provided for the students who are deaf or cannot hear very well. I have created
activities to help keep my students engaged and have them easily accessible.

Lesson idea implementation: This unit is based on our seasons and the weather patterns. I have created a
short video with iMovie and will use it to introduce the content. After the video has been shown there will be
a class discussion on the different seasons and which weather patterns correlate with each season. After the
discussion there will be an activity provided for the students to complete in class. The students will randomly
select a season and determine which weather category it belongs to. This activity will be completed on their
learning device and I will be monitoring their progress. Once the students are assigned a season, they will be
finding pictures that go with their season and make a mini portfolio on that season.

Throughout the year the students will be keeping up with a weather journal. This journal will be found on our
classroom blog. This will be used so the students can keep track of the different weather patterns the
students see while the year goes on. At the end of each week I will be looking at the journals to see if the
students comprehend and those that do not. I will also be giving time to the class to discuss what patterns
they have seen, which ones they like or dislike.
Importance of technology: Multimedia is crucial to this content. Students are able to use technology to find
images and different characteristics for their season. This gives them the opportunity to explore content in
the standard. Technology is also important in this lesson because it gives the students a chance to listen and
watch the given video as many times necessary.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The safety of my students is a high priority of mine. Because we will be
using our classroom blog, I will password protect the page, so students can post anything they’d like to while
observing the weather (this can include pictures of them playing in the snow, rain, etc.). I will also make sure
that my students create an avatar for their blog profile so that they will not be using their actual name. Before
starting this type of activity, I will be sending home a consent form to the parents and have them sign giving
permission for their child to participate.

Reflective Practice: Reflecting on this lesson idea, I feel like the activities are engaging and fun for my
students. I believe that a lesson like this will keep my students interested and wanting to keep learning.
Further extending this lesson, we will be discussing the water cycle and how it is affected by our seasons.
