Rollover analysis for April 2019 series

Highlights: Strong roll-over


• The Nifty Future began the April series with 1.81 Scrip Roll-over Px Expiry Px
crore vs 1.49 crore shares in open interest. (%) % chg

Post the flat expiry of February series, the Nifty


started the March series on a Positive note. Further
in this series, the index heavyweights witnessed a
significant run up mainly backed by Banking and Weak roll-over
PSU counters. , However, midcap and small cap Scrip Roll-over Px Expiry Px
index also witnessed some buying interest in the end (%) % chg
of the series. Finally, with the help of blue chip stocks, LT 67.01% 1386.7 7.25%
series on series March expiry of Nifty closed with the GAIL 67.55% 358.3 4.77%
significant gain of around 7.20%. The Bank Nifty on
KOTAKBANK 67.56% 1340.75 10.52%
the other hand was the star performer in this series
posting spectacular gains of around 13.50%. On the POWERGRID 68.12% 198.25 8.42%
Open Interest front, the Nifty and Bank Nifty both saw NIFTYIT 70.24% 15566.75 -1.05%
a significant amount of long buildup. Till the last day JSWSTEEL 71.13% 288.25 2.54%
of the series, the Nifty saw an addition of around
BANKNIFTY 71.29% 30420.55 13.55%
73% while the Bank Nifty saw an addition of 130%,
the open interest almost got doubled. Rollover also CIPLA 72.19% 525.6 -5.22%
is very much line in the April series for Nifty and Bank INFRATEL 74.16% 317.1 7.99%
Nifty is at 66.76% and 71.29% vs 3 month average BPCL 74.59% 385.85 14.31%
of 65.46% and 72.24% respectively, indicating that
majority of the long positions have been carried
forward to the next series.
Expiry-to-expiry advance decline (AD) ratio
On the options front in the April series, the Nifty 11000
PE is the highest in terms of open interest with around Advance 169
20.22 lakh shares in it followed by 11500 PE which
has 16.72 lakh shares. On the Call side, 12000 CE Decline 28
is the highest in terms of open interest with around
20.43 lakh shares, followed by 11600 CE which has Unchanged 2
11.90 lakh shares in it. Total 199
Put Call Ratio (PCR) has also been trading above
AD Ratio 6.04
1.30-1.40 for most of the part of the March series. It
also touched the high of 1.84, in the August series
also it started on the higher side at 1.58, which is the
positive sign for the market. The volatility index has
been trading in the range of 14-17% indicating not
much of a volatile market in the near future. Hence,
in consideration of the above data and inline rollover
figure, we feel that the momentum of the market
continues to be positive and any dip in the market
should be used to create longs targeting 12000
levels in the April series.
