“Dentists are medical professionals who help you put your money where your

mouth is,” said an unknown author. A career in dental assisting is one that is important.

Dental assisting is important because dental assistants help the dentist with he or she

needs. The training needed, advancement process, and benefits and hazards of the dental

assistant career will be analyzed.

To become a dental assistant, education and training are important. A career in

dental assistance requires a post-secondary nondegree- award to gain an entry-level

position. One should go to a Technological College if they want a career in dental

assisting (Writers 2014). One must complete twelve months of schooling to become

dental assistant . There are many colleges and training facilities that provide the

education required for a career in dental assisting. For example, Tennessee College of

Applied Technology and Remington College ("Earn Your Dental Assisting Diploma in as

Few as 8 Months in Nashville!" 2019). have programs to prepare students for this career.

One program at TCAT is twelve months long. According to the website, this program

costs $4,898 per year ("Dental Assisting"). Some high school classes that might help

prepare students for this career are biology, health science, and science. Overall,

education and training are important for a career in dental assistant.

When considering a career in dental assistant, one must think about the money

they will earn and how to advance. The average salary for a person starting a career in

dental assisting is $37,630. The senior-level salary in this career is $53,130

("CareerOneStop" 2017). If one wants to grow in this career, different actions are

required. For example, gaining an Associate's degree is a longer program ("Dental

Assistant Schools & Careers"). Typically, one must have certification and more

experience to get a promotion. Growing in dental assisting will take time and patience.

With any career, there are things that are positive about the job and things that are

negative. Within this career, there are many benefits. First there is, a nice and serene

workplace. Also, it is a fantastic career with advancement opportunities. Additionally,

one can meet and network with people ("8 Reasons You Should Become A Dental

Assistant"). However, there are hazards or disadvantages to this career, too. One

disadvantage is one can get a physical injury this occurs when dental assistants injure

themselves through poor ergonomics in the workplace. Also, infection because dental

assistants are regularly exposed to microorganisms from patients’ mouths. Lastly,

radiation risk because taking dental radio graphs to help dentists diagnose oral-health

problems in patients requires the use of a dental X-ray unit, which poses several dangers

(King "Dental Assistant Disadvantages" 2017). There are many benefits and hazards to

consider before going into the dental assistant career.

To be a dental assistant, it takes a desire to help others, organizational skills, and

organizational skills. The schooling required to be a dental assistant is significant but

worth the investment of time and resources. They are many ways to advance in this

career. There are many advantages to dental assistant, but there are disadvantages too.

great working environment and beautiful work.
