The material of construction for the bulk of the facilities and subsea pipeline will be carbon steel, with

suitable anticorrosion protection (coatings), corrosion allowance and cathodic protection. All such
materials and systems shall be according to the applicable industry standards.
In order to prepare an ‘engineered’ selection for the piping material, during the conceptual design, a high-
level corrosion assessment was performed for the flowlines. For the assessment, calculations were
performed based on the Norsok M506 calculation method, which provides an assessment tool for
systems where the key driver for the expected corrosion mechanism is the CO2 content in the gas
stream.

Based on some key assumptions for the assessment, mostly available from the performed flow assurance
studies, it showed that the expected uninhibited corrosion rates in the flowlines will be very high.
This led to the conclusion that a corrosion resistant alloy would be an appropriate selection for the piping
materials until inhibition is assured. Therefore, the process piping systems from the X-mas trees’
connection, through the manifold, up to the connection to the inhibition injection point at the separator
outlet are assumed to be Duplex material. Alternatively a suitable lining can be used e.g. for the
separator.

Once the gas is inhibited, it is assumed that there will be a change in material from Duplex/lined materials
to Carbon Steel.
