SWOT ANALYSIS OF ONLINE FOOD ORDERING INDUSTRY IN INDIA

Abstract
According to National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), ‘the restaurant industry is
expected to contribute about 2.1 percent to the total GDP of India by 2021. With the advent of
online food delivery startups and digital expansion, food Industry is undergoing a radical shift.
The changing urban lifestyle of the average Indian is dramatic enough to be favorable for the
quick home delivery models to grow at higher rates. The ever-increasing population crowded
metro cities and longer travel times are drivers for the convenient, ready-to eat and cheaper
options of having food at your doorstep.

However the sector hasn’t received the attention it deserves. Many online food ordering
companies have been started in recent years to capture the market like Swiggy, Zomato,
Foodpanda, Ubereats etc. In this study an attempt has been made to analyze the strengths,
weakness, opportunities and threats before the online food ordering industry.
