MYTH: Any Drink Will Help You Hydrate

In the height of summer, with the sun beating down, sometimes all you
want is a nice refreshing drink to help you hydrate and cool off. As long as
it’s cold it’ll work, right?

REALITY: Some Drinks Do More Harm than Good

While an ice cold soda may seem like the perfect summer option, don’t
expect it to meet your hydration needs. According to the Cleveland Clinic,
“alcoholic and caffeinated beverages, such as coffee, teas, and colas, are
not recommended for optimal hydration. These fluids tend to pull water
from the body and promote dehydration.” It’s not that you shouldn’t enjoy
these drinks in the summer, just be sure to supplement with water or other
hydrating fluids.
