The response technology I used in my classroom was nearpod.
I used this lesson as a review right before
a test on primary and secondary sources. We quickly reviewed what each term meant and looked at examples of each source. Nearpod was great for my classroom management because I have a very talkative class. Students like to come to the carpet so they can see the board better; however, they end up playing or talking. With nearpod, the students saw the exact same thing on the board on their personal Chromebook at their desk. This really helped with distractions. The instant response helped my students read the questions more carefully. They are use to Kahoot where if you answer the questions faster the more points you get. I like this better than Kahoot too because I can see which students missed which question. This allowed me to quickly see which students needed more practice with identifying primary and secondary sources. Another thing that made this tool successful was that students didn’t know how other students were doing. My class is very competitive and some students would get very upset if they weren’t in the top 3 like Kahoot. Students had to be engaged because I could see their responses. I had a few students I had to walk over to because I noticed their weren’t answering the questions on the quiz at first. There were no particular changes I could have done to make this lesson more engaging. However, I am excited to use nearpod in other subject because students can draw or collaborate on a wall like padlet.
