Sub-objectives, SWBAT (Sequenced from basic to complex):
 How will you review past learning and make connections to previous lessons?
 What skills and content are needed to ultimately master this lesson objective?
 How is this objective relevant to students, their lives, and/or the real world?

Key vocabulary: Scarcity, Famine Materials: Laptop computers, Nearpod Lesson,

smarties candy
Opening (state objectives, connect to previous learning, and make relevant to real life)
 How will you activate student interest?
 How will you connect to past learning?
 How will you present the objective in an engaging and student-friendly way?
 How will you communicate its importance and make the content relevant to your students?
Students will be able to describe the cause and effect of the Irish Potato Famine. They will
be presented a visual example of scarcity with the use of candy. Students will be given two
packages of smarties each. The teacher will take away some or all of the candy from the
students. This will make the lesson more relevant to students as they will be able to learn about
scarcity and how it impacted a country and its people. Students will then be given access to a
lesson that will be given on the interactive website, Nearpod. They will see the lesson played in
front of them and will interact with each other and the instructor. By explaining the ideas of
scarcity and providing examples, I will be able to show the students that scarcity is relevant
today as it was when the potato famine occurred in Ireland.
