PNP bows to BFP, 65-64

Lingig, Surigao del Sur – SPO1 Eric Manguin grabbed the limelight as he took do-or-die
three pointer shot with five seconds to carry the PNP’s thrilling victory against the BFP in
Lingig Basketball League championship game, 65-64 at the municipal gym on Aug. 7,
2016.
Watched by a throng of basketball enthusiasts with no less than Surigao del Sur’s 2 nd
Congressional District representative, Congressman Johnny T. Pimentel, both teams
started slowly as they both ran into the maze of turnovers in the opening salvo.
The policemen’s PNP blasted a 10 – 0 score with less than two minutes lead to seal the
lead, 28 – 27, as the buzzer sounded inside the jampacked gym.
In the second half, the firemen’s BFP heated the court when they zoomed dizzying 8 – 2
lead choking and leaving the PNP gasping for breath. “Go, go, go, BFP”, shouted the
euphoric fans of BFP but their euphoria boiled down when Manguin got his momentum and
fired three successive bulls – eye three pointer shots to turn the score upside-down, 60 –
59, in favor of the PNP.
Dude Sim switched on the adrenalin of his fellow firemen by carrying the BFP on that
crucial moment and tie the game at 62 – all with ten seconds left.
In the blink of an eye, PNP’s hero SPO1 Eric Manguin shook off the cobwebs and took his
do-or-die three-pointer shot that shattered the rival’s hope of getting the crown, 65 – 64.
“They are excellent players, too. Perhaps we are just lucky to win this game,” said
Manguin, the star of the game, humbly.
