Question 3

Abdullah Munir
Overview
• Throughout the year, media studies has
taught me many different skills which have
helped me progress and widen my ability to
produce work which used to be of low
quality, to work which is extremely eye
catching. My skills have improved through
practice on using applications such as;
photoshop and publisher. Throughout the
year I have also learnt to improve on my
photography skills, taking pictures which
focus on lighting and camera shots and
angles.
photoshop
• To begin with, at the beginning of the year I was taught
how it was important to create a new document with
the right page resolutions as that affects the page
layout on the whole. I also learned how to use the
eraser tool to cut out unwanted parts of an image
which I would then use the navigator tool to zoom in
and cut out smaller parts of the picture to give the best
possible final result. Furthermore, one important thing
that I learned in photoshop that I did not know of
before is to hold down the ‘shift’ key when resizing an
image else the picture will get stretched. I also learned
over this year how to create 3D affects by using new
layers and how to bring pictures to life.
photography
• There have been many things throughout the
year that have helped me with my photography
skills and made me cautions' when I take
pictures. There are a few key features that need
to be payed attention to, first being the lighting.
The lighting is important as different shades of
lighting represent different things. Bright lighting
could mean something angelic and important
whereas dim lighting could represent something
dark and evil. Furthermore camera angle is
important as something which is shot at a low
angle is represented as something empowering
yet a high angle shows something weak and
fragile. finally the camera shot is also important
as a close up usually is to show detail, facial
expression and emotion.
