Class 7230 JUNE, 1989 Three Phase, Liquid Filled Compartmental Type Pad Mounted Transformers SQUARE D COMPANY Dedicated To Growin + Committed To Quality EEL PAD MOUNTED TRANSFORMERS APPLICATION DATA JUNE, 1989 ‘Three-phase, pad! mounted transformers for use on underground power distribution systems meet modem design requirements for flexibility and provide a visually pleasing installation. Tamperproof construction allows installation in locations accessible to he general public without the need for protective fencing or Vaults. They ate ideally suited for apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, shopping centers. commercial buildings or industria sites. Standard sizes range Irom 75 KVA through 5000 KVA ‘with primary ratings from 2400 to 34500 volts. The design meets all applicable industry standards of ANSI, NEMA and IEEE. “Tho transformer consists of a core and coil assembly de- signed to reduce operating losses and to provide adequate ‘mechanical strength should a system fault occur. 75 through 5000 KVA core-coil assemblies are of the fivelegged de- sign with wound cores. By utilizing the five-legged design ‘on wye-wye connected transformers, the possibilty of tank heating due to stray flux paths under short circuit condi tions is eliminated. Computer design techniques result in a core-coil assembly with high efficiency and low losses for the most economical operating characteristics Strip aluminum secondary windings offer high axial short ‘ircuit strength and fast coil heat dissipation. Standard 65°C. rise construction with diamond patterned, thermally up- ‘graded Kraft and oi insulation assures long life. Improved methods of core and coil clamping eliminate external stresses to permit the core laminations to remain relaxed in the "as annealed" position, thus reducing core losses and noise levels. Primary winding tap leads are connected to a {ap changer (de-energized operation only) with the operating handle brought through the tank wall, There is no need to ‘pen the transformer tank for voltage adjustment. TE (© Spare conga 507 APPLICATION DATA ‘TANK AND COMPARTMENTS ee PAD MOUNTED TRANSFORMERS Ea PEL The transformer tank and terminal compartment are de- signed to make one complete weatherproof, tamperproof as- sembly. The terminal compartment is separated into high voltage and low voltage sections by a steel burrier, and is bolted to the transformer tank front wall. Each compartment section has an individual door and they are mechanically in- terlocked to prevent opening the high voltage section door until the low voltage door has been opened and the security boll removed. A three-point pin-type latch prevents prying. ‘the low voltage door open. The extemal handle has padlock. provisions. Liftoff type stainless steel hinges are furnished 50 that the doors may be removed during installation, and door stops are provided. The compartment sill is removable to allow the transformer to be rolled into position over con- duit stubs, ‘The transformer tank is designed to withstand internal pres- sures of 7 psi without permanent distortion. Heavy duty lift ing ears and jacking pads are arc welded to the tank; and, in addition, the tank base is constructed to allow rolling or skid- ding in any direction. Oil preservation is by the sealed tank ‘method. A welded tank cover is supplied with a tamperproof hhandhole bolted and gasketed to the cover. All welds are ground smooth and the unit cleaned, primed and given a finish coat of paint. The standard color is outdoor green, Munsell No. 7GY3.29/1.5, All surfaces of tank are shot-blasted before priming. ‘The number and location of cooling panels on the trans- former tank is dictated by the design. The smaller trans- formers (through 112.5 KVA) usually require no cooling panels. When required, flat panel-type radiators are used on these as well asthe larger units. Radiators are located on the rear ofthe transformer and in some cases on the sides. coer
