Research Tools Using Mullins Library

I searched for research tools regarding Social Emotional Learning in Elementary Schools, which
is an aspect of my major, Elementary Education (K-6).

Journal Article
● Name of Journal: Social Emotional Learning in Elementary School: Preparation for
Success
● Author: Linda Dusenbury
● Year: 2017
● Brief Summary: This journal article examines various social emotional learning programs
that are used during elementary school. It implores the roles of self awareness, social
awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making in schools. Also, this
article identifies specific social emotional goals that schools across the country for have
for students at the elementary level. The article concluded that focusing on improving
social emotional learning for students led to incredible strides in other areas in school.
These areas included academic achievement, less emotional distress, conflict resolution,
and an increase in behavior. Social emotional learning is the basis for every success in
the classroom.

competencies of teachers. However, the increasing importance of focusing on this
aspect in schools is backed by data relating to academic achievement, attendance, and
behavior. This dissertation outlines a model for professional development and the key
aspects that teachers should know and understand. It also describes what professional
development is and why it is important in teacher preparation.
