Unit Title: Integrals Name: Brooklynn Adams

Content Area: Mathematics Grade Level: 11th-12th
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):
 CA Content Standard 13.0: Students know the definition of a definite integral by using Riemann sums. They use this definition to approximate integrals.
 College Board Standard Unit 5: Integration and Accumulation, Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.

Big Ideas/Unit Goals:

 What are the methods of using Riemann Sums and which is the best for approximating the area?

Unit Summary:

In this unit you will learn what integrals are and how to calculate them specifically using the method of Riemann Sums. After understanding how to use Riemann
Sums you will then be able to determine which of the three methods are best to approximate the area under the curve. On top of this, you will also be able to
describe the relationship between integrals and derivatives, which you have previously learned about. You will be able to do this by doing the following: You will
have lectures you can visit, quizzes and a unit test, and group work.
Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level: Formative: Summative:
Survey students will take to see what their prior Integral Crossword puzzle with definitions. Integral Power Point Presentation: A group project
knowledge on integrals is. Quiz on material to date. doing all 3 methods of Riemann Sums and
Partner Pair and Share different methods to do presenting findings to class.
Riemann Sums Unit Exam on all material from unit.
Discussion on what we learned from the Integral
Power Point Presentation
Lesson 1 (Teacher Lecture)
Student Learning Objective: Acceptable Evidence Lesson Activities:
Students will be able to (Assessments): Students will have a power point lecture about the three types of Riemann Sums and other information
calculate integrals using Integral Crossword Puzzle, relating to them. They will receive a guide to follow along and answer questions. They will turn this in for
left and right Riemann Quiz, Exam credt.
